First Slantbar Shave....

Took the plunge this morning:

1. Read Instructions on B&B thread about proper blade alignment - check
2. Razor - Merkur Slantbar - check
3. Forgiving blade - Shark (smoothest I know of) - check
4. Slick cushion-y lather - applied Cremo as pre-shave and whipped up a cushiony cloud of Tabac - check
5. Proper technique - applied almost no pressure, blade at about 35 degree angle wtg, xtg, atg 3 pass - check

Result = AWESOME!!!!!!

Conclusions: Slantbars are very aggressive so treat them with care, got two tiny cuts, didn't even need alum for em though so no big deal whatsoever. I was very amazed at how much hair the slant removes. Only needed three passes for this shave. Normally with my EJ86, I need 4-5 plus touch ups. Slants just mow hair down!!!! The shave was not as smooth and maybe not as close as my EJ86, but I'm going to attribute that to the fact it was my first time. No razor burn what-so-ever though.

Verdict: I love it. I'm sure it will only get better as my technique improves. Love that I don't have to do as many passes with it. Next up: I want to try my slant with an Iridium, which I hear is a killer combo!

Thanks B&B as always. This is SO MUCH FUNNNNN!!!!!!!

Great to hear you had a good experience. I fell in love with mine. You'll have to try it out with a Feather blade - don't worry about the rumors out there. It's very gentle as long as you don't put any pressure on it.

I don't find the slant aggressive - just a smoother shave, is all. Efficient though, I can drop a 3rd pass and still get pretty much the same result.

I had my first shave with my new slant (I got in the mail Friday from WCS) and was blow away at how smooth of a shaver it was. I love it.

Slant with a Feather gives incredibly good results for me, too. And it's not scary. A light touch, and a good lather is all you need.

My face will hold BBS for a solid eight hours with the Slant/Feather config.

I get BBS with several other set ups, but I don't know that I've actually maintained BBS for so long after the shave as with the Slant/Feather combo.

(For the record, my other top rigs are a Slim @ 9 with an Astra or Feather or Iridium or a Red Tip with a Feather)

I get so enamored w/ my other equipment, I forget to use my Slant from time to time. However, at least once a week I shave w/ it and then ask myself why I'm not using it more often.

Funny how I get my best shaves with the Slant/Feather combo or the Blue Lady Gillette/Feather combo. The main difference is the amount of passes: 2 with the Slant, 3 with Blue Lady.

Yes, slant razors are aggressive but with good technique they are not that difficult to use. However, if your technique is off, the slant isn't as forgiving a razor as standard bar razors.
