First Shave With the Gillette New

Today I had my first shave with my newly acquired Gillette New.

Naturally I expected it to be similar to my Old Type Open Comb, but it actually seemed a good bit milder.

It felt smoother than the Old Type also by a good margin.

The shave was excellent, with very minimal irritation.

I think I am going to really enjoy this razor.

I think the NEW is a quantum leap beyond the Old Type in term of head engineering, but I may be slightly biased ...

Agreed on the NEW being milder and more forgiving than the Old Type. Glad it is working out for you!

I got the American Short Comb.

I will get some pics tomorrow.

I consider it an improvement over the Old Type also.

But I could get along with the Old Type if that's all I had.

I think the NEW is the pinnacle of design for Gillette. Gillette really hit their stride in the 30's with the NEW, the OC Aristocrat's and the pre war Tech's. The SC American NEW is the nicest shaving American NEW. I think you will get a lot of really good mileage out of that razor.

I really want an OC Aristocrat.

It is my most coveted razor.

I think the short comb is the best US-made open comb that I have tried as well. Now you need a British New open comb!

ickschnay on the English NEW's. They are not good shaving razors and if you have one, you really should sell it immediately (to me).
