First shave with a Cadet OC

I had my first OC shave today with a beautifully chromed Cadet (see pic)! I was extremely surprised by the very smooth shave on its first go around! I used my old standby Proraso Red, Astra SP(1), Parker Silver Tip, and City Rhythems from Aubry Organics. The first pass WG was like Butter, very smooth with no pulling at all. AG EW & WE were similarly smooth, but almost not even needed. I usually have to do a 4 pass shave with neck touch ups, but i could have only done two with the closeness i recieved with this razor. AG pass was also very smooth, the head size made it easy to trim around my gotee with ease unlike with my Slim. Some small touch ups around my jaw line and i was at an all over BBS! I had one small weeper, but my Razorock Alum took care of it no problem. Alum feedback was very minimal, slapped on the AS and went off to work looking good! All this for $18 shipping included! A big thanks to 5bassman on the BST for providing me the opportunity! Any thoughts on quality on this razor considering the $19 price tag on Shaveabuck.com? I've always been nervous about too good a deal..

Congratulations on stepping up to the Cadet OC!

I'm a big fan of Cadet's, both open comb and safety bar razors. I find them to be phenomenal shavers.

To answer your question, Shave-a-buck's $19 Cadets are top quality. Additionally Bullgoose Shaving carries them as does Italian Barber (branded as RazoRock razors).

My favorite blades for the Cadet OC's are Personna Super Platinum (red pack or UK packaging) or Voskhods. However it is the type of razor that shaves well with most any blade.

It's a very good razor for the money and worth it for the handle alone IMO. I found it to be extremely aggressive though.

Last month, I picked up one of the TTO Cadet Open Combs for OCtober. I like it a lot! It's a tad more aggressive than my Gillette New short comb, but shaves very, very well.

Continued good use to your Cadet OC!

great razors, and ridiculously affordable. i've had very close, comfortable shaves with both astras and sharks with this razor (open comb incarnation). you have to pay attention to technique or your face will be hamburger, but the rewards are worth it. a whole bunch of cool handles, too. congratulations, and enjoy your shaves!

Cadet OC's are very well regarded. The price only sweetens the deal. I recently acquired one off the BST and was blown away by how well it performed (not that I should have been surprised). In addition to a closer shave than my usual DE87, it really "sings" a lot more, which is nice.
