First full Injector shave

Hey guys, just completed my first full shave with a Schick injector, an E type. It almost pains me to say that I got a better shave with it than I did with my #16 last night. Super easy to use, like using a cartridge almost. I think this razor is going to work its way into my rotation very soon :001_smile.

I really have no idea how an injector works, but I must admit to being curious. I assume it's a DE type blade, but in a longer version, not as tall, fixed into a form that slides or locks into the injector. What kind of angle is it set at? Is it angled backwards toward the end of the handle you hold so you pull it down your face? Is it similar to shaving with a DE, an SE, a straight or a cart? The lack of variety of blades is the main reason I haven't tried one...and also it seems the blades are more expensive. Certainly not to the level of a cart, but moreso than DE. Do the injector blades last significantly longer than a DE blade?

Sorry if this is a hijack, just curious.

1. Injector blades are long and thin, nothing like a DE
2. They usually slide into place
3. I find it halfway similar between a DE/SE and a cart
4. Why would a lack of variety of blade types turn you off? Makes it easier....
5. I get 10 shaves out of a regular injector and 12+ shaves out of a vintage Personna 74. 3-4 usually from a DE.

Another one pulled in! heheheheheheh

Actually you can get Personna injector blades for about $24 for 100 including shipping which is cheaper than a lot of DE blades. With injectors I usually get 8-10 shaves per blade and with most DE blades I usually get 3-5. I find injectors a little boring to use, and prefer my vintage Gillettes, but they are great when you are in a hurry and for a little variety once in a while.

Is an injector shave as close as a DE? How many passes to get a BBS?

Yes it is, I usually get between a DFS and BBS in 2 passes with my Hydro-Magic and with my DE razors it usually takes 3 passes to get the same quality of shave.

This is piquing my interest. I may have to look for a good deal on an injector handle and give these a whirl. Something that will give a DFS and is a little "boring" sounds pretty slick to me. Sometimes I just don't have the time to whip up lather and shave like I want to. More often, I don't feel well in the mornings, am in moderate pain and just don't concentrate well. Something simpler that requires less passes to DFS would have a place in my rotation. Plus if you get roughly double the shaves from an injector blade as you do a DE, that makes the cost far more attractive. Makes a $24/100 pack really $12/100 since you double the amount of shaves. I get 3-5 shaves on average from a DE blade.

Now I just need to find a decent handle that isn't gold...something with a silver cap. I'll have to keep my eye out. The other question is...there are so many different types of injector heads. I don't know what the difference in shave quality is. I will have to do some more research on that one.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Always like to pull out an Injector now and then, still amazes me how easy they are (almost cheating) but they will cut you up if you get too cleaver. Well they did me anyway :wink2:

I know what you mean - I'm almost tempted to say it's virtually impossible to cut myself with the Schick L I have; it's just sooooo mild!

In fact, almost too mild... guaranteed good shave every time, but I don't know...

Some have been known to say an injector gives an easy, close shave....but not quite as close as a DE. Sometimes I think they might be right.

I find that my injector gives a shave as close as a DE generally, although not quite as close as a true SE razor. It is easier to shave with than anything other than my 1912, though.
