What's new

First fill

I got my first bottle of ink today. And in typical addict fashion, promptly took a days old cartridge out and tossed it. Put the converter in, washed the pen with warm soapy water until I had no trace of ink. Set it on a paper towel to let the water wick out and dry. Opened my new bottle of Special Reserve Lake Placid Blue. Dipped my nib, twisted the stem. And didn't get any ink. So I dipped it a little deeper, tried again. Got a little ink, but not enough. Third times the charm! Filled it, blotted the nib, and smiled like the cat that ate the canary.
But I did get a bit of ink on my finger. How do you prevent that? I thought I was careful, but evidently not careful enough!

Congrats on your new ink! Bottled ink is really where it's at.

An inky finger is almost unavoidable, unless you have a Shaefer Snorkel I guess? I try to keep my fingers back, but they always seem to find a drop of ink somewhere.

Congrats on the new ink. FWIW, I usually do three or four fills with my converters to get to am optimal ink fill level.
You will also learn how to fill your pens without getting ink on you eventually.

Just for giggles, I googled Pelikan. The first price I saw was $459. For that price, it better write the letter itself!

I don't personally believe it is possible. I can powerwash the ink bottle, wear rubber gloves, pre-soak the entire area with ink remover, and when it's all said and done, I still have ink on my fingers.
I have no idea where it comes from. It could be osmosis.

It's still worth it though.

Same here, must be something in the Lake Michigan water....

you can get a pelikan m200 for around $100 i think. But it can skyrocket pretty high for some of their higher end pens.

Last night I yanked out a nib from my MonteVerde, I got ink all over my hands

that being said i forgot to empty and remove the converter first
but i did manage to keep my hands further ink free when refilling.. at least i think, none of the purple colours had blue on it
