Finally healed after a disposable

I had to take a trip a couple of weeks ago. I have been using nothing but a strait since May, but for some reason the TSA frowns on straits on an airplane. So I took a disposable. I took a brush and cream, thought "It's only 2 days. How bad can it be?" BAD. Very very bad. Two shaves, 2 days later, I had so much razor burn on my neck I could barely button my collar. No way I could use a strait, my neck would be ground meat. I used my trusty DE. Ten days later, I finally am able to use my strait again.

I am actually on a vacation right now, and did the same thing (regretfully brought disposable razors instead of my straight). I have yet to shave with the disposable, but I am wondering how my face will react to a disposable blade as I've been using nothing but straights for months....I'm sure there will be some sort of adjustment period, I'll just have to be careful & watch for razor burn....Thx for sharing!!

I'm glad I didn't do that when I went to France back in May.
I carried my straight in my checked luggage. One week with a disposable and I would have been out of my mind.

See? I made up my mind to switch to a straight razor shave before I knew that the shave was so much better. I'm so glad I found this site and all the knowledge and combined experience of it's members.

I live in Arizona and it sometimes gets a tad warm here. Well, I'm a heavy sweater and my neck is practically baby-rashed after some shaves. I just thought that is what a shave does to you.

Not so. :sneaky2: Great Grandpa knew what he was doing...

I have gotten to where I take a straight razor, strop, and soap with me on vacations. It's part of the fun, and I relax and unwind while shaving. The strop can be hung from the permanent hangers they have in a motel room. The only thing different is that I rinse the blade with water rather than wipe it on a sponge. In fact, I found that I stropped better with the strop hanging high and when I got home from my last trip, I moved my strop to a similar position.

I usually take a DE and pick up some blades at my destination, or mail the Feather AC ahead with return postage in the box.
