Finally Got My Hands On A Knize Ten Sample

Hello chaps. I finally got my mitts on a sample of Knize Ten today. I have to thank Cathy at Colonial Drug for this. I emailed them last week and asked a bunch of questions about the product, the a/s ingredient list, etc. She emailed be back straight away told me she would send me a sample. It arrived today along with a Truefitt & Hill Spanish Leather sample and Caron L'anachiste. The latter two are fairly modern scents and the latter smells better to me in the bottle than the Spanish Leather. However, the Knize was the main event.

It is the aftershave version of the product. Man, is it STRONG. I dabbed just a bit on my fingertips and it stayed a long time. I should think you would need to go very carefully with it. The scent? I am not sure yet. I think it would have to grow on me. It reminds my of my Caswell Massey Persian Leather though not so plastic and synthetic smelling. But to my nose it is in the same vein. Heavy, sweet, oily, and who knows what? I will have to use it tomorrow morning and see where it leads. BTW, they are sold out of the edt version right now.

Regards, Todd

Thanks for the report. I would suggest taking your time with it to see if it grows on you. My guess, of course, being that it will. For reasons I do not quite understand, it seems to grow on most of those who try it and give it some time. (I have never tried the AS.) I say for reasons that I do not quite understand, because, as much as I love this stuff, it seems to me it ought to be about as difficult a scent as anything out there that has much of a following at all, and yet K10 has an enormous following!

I loved it the second I first sniffed it.I got a sample from The Knize and I am still thankful.
I may have to get a bottle of the aftershave but if I remember right it is almost the same price as the edt.

This stuffs lasts all day long. Put some on 9:30 am. It's 10:30 pm and still going strong. The drydown is a heavenly vanilla, powder, and leather. Definitely not a linear scent.

If you're not in love with this right out of the bottle, I think you have to be willing to experience its development. Once you've been through that a couple of times, you'll know if you like it or not. At least, that's the way I felt about the EdT. I'm not sure if the AS goes through the same changes. Personally, I like each of its different transformations.

Thanks, E. If I recall, that was in a trade where I got some really nice stuff, too, so I got at least as nice a "deal" as you did.

I believe your story, in part because you have stuck to it, and I admire you for it, but you are among very few that have loved K10 from first sniff who I know of. I agree very much, too, with The Nid Hog about how fascinating and admirable the evolution/development of K10 is. In fact, I would probably accurately say that my first experiences with K10 were that I did not know that I really liked it all that much, and it kind of scared me to wear it a bit, it seemed so forceful and unusual, but it seemed so much fun putting some on and following its development over time on my skin, which to this day seems to me to have the odd attribute of being at least a little different everytime I use it.

But I would say that in the course of using it to study its fascinating dry down, I became otherwise addicted to and smitten with the scent, as I remain to this day.

I was lucky enough to get a bottle off the B/S/T for $50.I wear it everyday, now that the weather has cooled off and I use 6 sprays, non of that spray in the air and walk into it for me.

Good evening chaps. I thought I would add a small addendum to the posting. Indeed, this scent will take some sidling up to. I do not mean to imply I do not like it. Unlike most scents where you really do know whether you like it or not after a first application, this one will take time.

I applied a small amount this morning and had SWMBO give it the sniff test. She liked it and told me it was quite light smelling! I went back and put some more on and she told me it was still not projecting at all so I was happy with that. This scent stays strong under your nose but thankfully unless you really over do it it won't gag everyone in three counties. She told me it smelled really classy and "grown up man" like. Nice.

Now as to the scent. It does lose some of that oily scent after you apply it. The powder comes through loudly and after a good dry down it settles in a leathery, smoky scent that stays rather close to the skin. I suppose you could over do this one easily if not judicious in application though it is not the projection monster I feared. I will add that this scent strongly reminds me of Caswell Massey's Persian Leather though much more refined. It morphs after application whereas PL stays the same sweet, leather tanning chemical, powder scent it does when you put it on. I just checked with SWMBO and she can still catch a small scent of it nearly twelve hours after application! So yeah, easy does it.

Now to the a/s performance. I actually think it worked pretty well. I did not use a tonne of the product so it may be different if I used the same amount as say, Taylor's Mr. Taylor. It left my skin feeling powdery, soft, and refreshed. Pretty good from an alcohol splash really. Most a/s products from typical fragrance companies are crap to put it mildly. Over expensive alcohol waters is about the best as can be said for them. This one is better than average and much better than I expected. I will list the ingredients below. I think they are great additions for a true a/s product. Sorry to ramble on but I think this scent deserves a lot of contemplation. It is most assuredly not something like Jovan Musk or even one of our Taylor favourites. Deep is the word I would use.

Alcohol, Aqua, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Parfum, PPG-20 Methyl Glucose Ether, Methyl Gluceth-10, Panthenol, Propylene Glycol, PEG-12, Dimethicon(PEG-12 Dimethicone), Cinnamyl Alcohol, Eugenol, Hdroxycitronellal, Iscugenol, Benzyl, Salicylate, Coumarin, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linonene, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Evernia Prunastri (Oakmoss) Extract, Benzone Acid, Methyl Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, C.1 47000(Yellow 11), 3- Benzyhdene Camphor.

What a list! However, I recognise things like castor oil and panthenol as skin friendly stuff. It works here I think.

Hello gents. A small update is in order. Cathy contacted me and informed me she thought the tester she sent me was inadvertently switched with the a/s tester and I really have the edt version. She said they were sending another out that is indeed the a/s. I wondered at this because the product felt quite soothing on my skin. Of course you may remember I was just wetting my fingertips and daubing it on so who knows?

Anyway, I am more than impressed by Cathy and her customer service. It would have been all too easy to let this slide unnoticed and a lesser vendor may have been tempted. My hat is doffed to Colonial Drug.

I received a sample from Colonial and plan to order a bottle once they receive stock. I have read many who say you love or hate the Knize 10. I like to have at least one cologne that has a good leather scent to it, and the Knize seems a bit more punchy than Creed English Leather, as well as lasting longer than the ephemeral Creed. I personally quite like Knize 10.

Colonial is a great vendor. In re Knize Ten, give it a chance. The first 15 times I smelled it, I couldn't figure out why all fuss. I fell hard on #16.

Knize Ten also had to grow on me. The first times I used it, it smelled foul in an almost boring way. But the, I fell in love with it and I don't think we will ever part (and I hope it will be in production for many, many years to come).

On a side note Knize Sec and Knize Forest also caught me. They are now my Knize mistresses. :001_smile
