What's new

Filarmonica

My Doble Temple arrived yesterday. I shaved with it this morning.

I get it.

Pics will be in my weekly scored post.

I've got two #13's. My favorite razors so far (disclaimer: subject to change by tomorrow morning). Love the size of the blade, love the grind, love the edge they take, but most of all I love, love, love the large squarish tang. The plastic scales are for the birds - it should be a crime to put such crappy scales on a such a lovely blade.

I think the cheap plastic scales add to the mystique of them somewhat. I had plans on getting a nice pair of Rayman scales made up for it at some stage but I'm not so sure now.

Ok, I'm going to have to try mine out soon. Got my #13 back from Jose a little over a week ago and haven't used it yet

I get you on the scales though. At some point if I know it is staying in the rotation I'm going to get it rescaled. The logo is almost completely gone on mine though, so it is no big deal. If I had one of those pretty NOS you always see on eBay though I would be inclined to keep the scales to stay original.

Have you had a go at making your own scales yet John?

Not yet I haven't. I might have a look at it in the future but I'd only ever make basic ones and they are quite cheap to buy. I'm currently in the process of getting a buffing wheel and a metal sanding wheel so I can put my drill in the bench clamp and see if I can clean up a straight blade easier.

Fillies were meant to be functional, not beautiful. Most effort was put into creating a great blade. Moreover, at the time they were manufactured plastics were novel raw materiasl and may have been very attractive to the customer of that era.

Mine was a NOS so the scales are unmarked. I quite like the green colour as well. It certainly makes the razor stand out in the row of mainly black and white straights.

My Fillys are the best shavers to ever lop a whisker on my face...

Is they is, or is they ain't my babys...

Max rescaled both of these. I think they look fantastic. I love shaving with them.

How did you find the shave John?

The shave was really good. I haven't honed it. It's just the factory hone. I did give it lots of laps on the blasa strop, the linen and the leather though. I think that a tickle with the 12k stone will make it even better. The razor felt really comfortable in the hand and the blade felt wonderful on the face.
