Feeling Anxious... Part 2

A few days ago I posted my cocerns. All in all I decided to go back to where I started. I just did not have the 7AM blades I began with. Well I did change razors back and prepped the same way and face lathered and used a Crystal Platinum Chrome. My shave was so much smoother and with no nicks. Now I did try this blade in the slim adj. but the shave still was not smooth and I would get a few nicks. So right now this is what I will focus my attention on but I do hope I find a suitable blade for the slim for I do want to use that.

Sounds like you need to purchase a blade sampler pack.

West coast shaving has some good samplers and the blade baron has a post in the vendor section with some really great selections as well.

One other problem may be with the adjustable razor. Are the gaps even on both sides when you have a blade in it? What number do you have it set on, maybe dial it down to 1 until you get used to it? Lastly, I believe I have read that it's possible for these adjustable razors to be overclocked or underclocked, meaning that even though you have it set to 1 it may really be shaving at 6 or vice versa. How does the blade gap look on the adjustable compared to your other razor?

Just some thoughts, I apologize if this was already covered in your last thread which I did not read.

I already have a 7 brand sampler pack but I may opt to pickup a few more. As far as the gap it looks to be the same or even on both sides. I currently use it on 3 but when i try with it again I'll dial it down to 1 and go from there, Thanks.

Now that you've gone back to what worked for you originally you can change the Parker for the Slim and keep everything else the same.

A Slim is a regular in my rotation. I've also used Crystal blades in it successfully. I've never tried a Parker but I've read that it's neither a particularly mild nor aggressive razor. You should be able to get the Slim to work. Remember, no pressure and let the weight of the razor head do the cutting.

Use a Crystal and set your Slim to 3 to start. You have to loosen the silo doors slightly first before you adjust the settings. Make sure the silo doors close completely after you set the blade gap. There is a detente (resistance) that you feel when the doors are almost closed. You should make sure you go past this and this locks the doors down completely.

The Crystal is a sharp blade. If you notice that you have to work to cut your beard, then change the blade gap to the next highest number. I started at 4 and ended up at 6 for a BBS shave in 3 passes. I tried it at 7 and ended up with a couple of nicks and a shave that wasn't any smoother than at 6.

If you can't get an irritation-free shave with a Crystal at any setting, then try a different blade.
