Feel like a noob again - Merkur 39C slant

First shave, ok. Second shave, better, even DFS. Felt like I was on my way.

Third shave: :behead: Bloodbath.

A major setback but I will press on.

Oh dont tell me this....I finally have gotten completely comfortable with my 34c and was ready to maybe start thinking about a slant..... now, maybe i wont.... haha

I had the same thing happen to me, my first three shaves were great no problem. I was late for work one morning and my 39c reminded me that efficient can also mean ouch. But after that its been great close BBS shaves, many many shaves

I think it's just trying to get the technique of a different kind of razor down. When I tried out my SE micromatic, the first 3 or 4 times were great!!! Then I got confident, and irritated the living wholly s&*$ out of my neck.... I found I need to sloooow down and take my time.. Heck that's what it's all about anyways eh?

P.S. I have been looking at this razor...

After reading about it here on the board, I picked up a slant a couple of weeks ago. Love it, and so far no blood bath, though I only use it a couple times a week, when I don't use a straight.

Priceless thread. Just got my 37C in the mail today and I feel like a noob again. My 34C is so smooth and I have my technique down to a science. After my first shave with the slant my face was raw. On the bright side, I didn't nick myself!

In all fairness, I knew I need to give it some respect and I know I didn't! Can't wait to get back in the saddle and shave again tomorrow...

It's easy to get careless after initially having good experiences with a razor. Certainly is for me. Just take your time. That 39C is the finest DE razor I have ever used.

i love the 37c, I got it after the 23c and i love the short handle and the weight of it. I'm not sure if the slanted action actually does much of anything different than a conventional design, or if it just makes me think it does something, but I enjoy it. :)

I tried it for five shaves and had some very uncomfortable shaves with it. I tried switching blades and checked proper insertion but it just did not agree with me.

It took about a week for me to really get comfortable with my 39C. It definitely lets you know if you've developed some bad habits. Also, while it seemed to do a better job in some of the spots I usually have problems, the 39C had problems with other spots that a regular DE could get pretty easily; I usually don't have problems with my upper lip, and I absolutely shredded it for the first week. Just work through it – it's definitely worth it!

Surprised you're having problems - like others I would suggest checking blade alignment ands your angle of attack. I can knock out a perfect 3 pass shave with mine with minimal effort, so it's definitely a capable tool !
