Feathers, are they that scarey?

This is my 2nd stint on wet shaving, first time round all i used were wilkinson, personna ans derby which i found the best, never got round to feathers, this time out i ordered a great sample pack which had no feathers in the first pack (the company does 4 different samplers), bought a feathers de a while back to give it a try and they gave 2 feather blades and ordered some stuff on line the other day and they had a good offer on ferathers so i bought 3 packs, now i am going to start on the sample pack this weekend as my other blades are coming to the end and i have put the blades from the sample pack in order as whitch to try, the feathers are last, are they that aggresive because i do have a slight fear to try them:eek:

No. They're just like any other blade. A little care is due, that's all. I don't do anything differently.

There's no reason to be afraid of the feathers. They are sharp and smooth. That's all. Pay attention to your technique, but relax and treat them like any other blade.

I really enjoy feathers in my 40's Super Speed, 50's Flair Tip and Schick Krona. I hate them in my Merkur Vision though. They are sharp so dont do anything too aggressive until you feel comfortable. Nothing to really worry about...

As a side note anytime I use a new blade (one I have never tried before) I always use a slightly more delicate touch, until I get a feel for it.

Have no fear about using Feathers. The best and sharpest blade in the world.
Shave like you always do and relax. Remember like a knife you always want a sharp blade.

Just be mindful of how sharp Feathers are. Otherwise, they are not something to be feared like their reputation around here.

Don't let their reputation scare you. Use them as you would any blade. Just keep a watch on your technique because they are sharp. :001_rolle

I agree with what the other said. I've been wet shaving for almost a year and finally ordered some Feathers. I showed them some respect, but changed nothing and walked away just fine. In my confidence in subsequent shaves I cut myself a couple of times and never felt it and didn't know I was cut until I noticed the blood. They've given me excellent shaves and I highly recommend them. Just focus on your technique and you'll be fine. Best of luck and enjoy.

About 2-3 months in to DE shaving I tried a feather blade. I cut myself up. The other day I put a new feather in my DE and shaved without a problem. I am now about 9 months in. I would have to say that until you get your technique down I would use Derby after you get it together use the feather if you want.

It's just a razor blade. Feathers don't bite, shoot lasers, or do anything else that will scar you for life. Honest.

I've been DE shaving for about 2 months now and working my way through a WCS sampler pack which did include a pack of Feathers. I've been keeping a log of my shaves since I started with the sampler pack and I've noticed that the number of nicks varies more with my technique (or lack thereof) than it does with the blade. I was shaving with a Feather in my Merkur Progress this morning and at one point, I could feel that I was using too much pressure on my chin and right after I did it, I knew there would be blood. Sure enough, there was. But that was the only place, everywhere else was just fine (and smooth).

I was originally hesitant to try the Feathers as well, but I'd say go for it. Just watch your technique.

Why shave with a dull blade?...Feathers should be on eveyones trial list. The only thing scary is a dull blade.

I believed all the hype about Feathers, too (i.e., I would be cut to ribbons, ninja style, etc.). I waited a couple of months until my technique was down pat before trying them. I tried them first in a Gillette Tech, which is about the least aggressive razor you can find. I had just about the best shave I've had since I began wet shaving (using Tabac soap). This morning I used a Feather in my C4 Superspeed, and I got another wonderful shave (this time with Musgo Real). Next time I'll progress further and try my Red Tip. As others have said, just be careful like you would with any razor and blade. Don't apply any pressure whatsoever; take it easy, let the weight of the razor do the work for you, and you'll be fine.

I enjoy feathers and shave with them regularly. I also believe if you watch your technique you will have a great shave. I do notice that certain of my razors perform better with a feather. I shaved with my Slant this morning using a feather blade and it was great. On the other hand my Futur doesn't seem to like them much at all, I tend to get a better shave with a Derby. You'll be fine and please let us know how you like them.

Feathers are actually so sharp that you can't even fly with them in your checked baggage.

A little joke - there have been a number of threads concerning TSA regulations prohibiting airline passengers from carrying DE blades in carry-on luggage. I liked the idea of a blade so sharp they don't even allow it in the cargo hold. I guess that one needs to go back to the drawing board. :001_rolle

I tried Feathers in my second week of wetshaving and got two small nicks. Not too bad I don't think considering, got an extremely close shave.

No, they aren't that scary. They're just extremely sharp and smooth, so they'll punish you if you're not careful. But you don't feel the blade when it does nick you, it's so sharp.
