I am not exactly new to DE shaving, being almost 60, it was the way I learned. I have returned recently having discovered Badger & Blade and the availability of excellent shaving product resources.
I had avoided Feather blades because I read so much about them being too much for new guys. I was not overly happy with the other brands I tried so I just tried a Feather this AM. I am frankly a little baffled as the blade seemed much more friendly to my face than the other blades I have tried. I got no nicks and very little irritation. The blade seemed to slide over my face easier, feeling more comfortable and safe to use instead of less. In short it was both the closest and most comfortable shave I have had yet.
The only explanation I have is my hair type. I have very thick coarse hair on my head. Although I am fair skinned with a medium to light beard I believe the whiskers I have are probably quite coarse. Other blades seemed to have a tougher time getting through my little forest. Maybe the sharper blade just pulls less when cutting tougher hair?
I have noticed that shaving in the direction my beard wants to lie does not seem to do much at all. I am even thinking of starting with a first pass more perpendicular to the hair direction and then going to ATG. I find that it may take a couple passes ATG to get all those tough little suckers.
So maybe, for me, the best shave will come from a sharper razor and a couple more aggressive passes. Does my logic make any sense based on the experiences you more experienced DE shavers have had?
