Feather ASD-1 Incoming

I just pulled the trigger on a Feather ASD-1. First shave related purchase for quite a while, after selling off most of my straights about 18 months ago I've been using my Merkur 38C Barber Pole almost exclusively except the odd shave with my straights. I prefer straights just got a bit lazy but might go back to using just straights in the near future. I haven't used another type of DE razor except the Merkur portable travel DE and my trusty 38C so it will be interesting to compare the Feather. Seems to be quite a polarizing razor, people here either love it or hate it.

Anyway, my vacation from shave related purchased has ended and I've just got myself

Feather ASD-1
Penhaglion's Blenheim Boquet shave cream
T&H 1805 ASB - to replace my nearly empty bottle
Kent/MWF Soap - to replace the one I forgot in a hotel a very long time ago and have missed since!

I'm not much of a huge collector anymore but like to keep a few of my favorites on hand.

Next up, I'll have to reacquire a Hart Steel and Filly #13- my two favorite razors that I should have kept!

Great choice and an awesome razor. It's smooth and simply stunning. Use it exclusively for a couple of weeks with Feather blades, get the angle right, get to understand how it works and you will be in shave heaven

Goodluck.

That's good to hear. Its last on my list of razors that I really wanted to try

Just when i bought it , two showed up on the sales forum!
oh well, looks like I might have the chance to reacquire my own Hart Steel I previously sold :p

I have one coming from B/S/T. Can't wait to try it. I'm hoping for smooth and close.

BTW, what is up with the AS-D2 (mentioned by Sencha)? Sounds like a hoax to me. No one has it for sale and no one has tried it other than some dude in Germany.

I've contacted both Feather and their distributors and said the AS-D2 will be released in a few weeks.

the AS-D2 is no hoax...see here

it's apparently pretty much the same razor, same aggressiveness etc with a few fine tuned alignement issues that some were having.

I like the AS-D1 look better and it comes with the wood box, which the AS-D3 does not. The AS-D1 is an awesome razor, with the right blade it gives a very close shave, no irritation, trouble free and you always feel like a king using it.

I'm just finishing up my week with the AS-D1 and loved it as always.

So I had my first shave with it this morning and it was exactly as I had imagined. extremely mild but very smooth. I didn't have any trouble getting a good shave with it though but seemed to have missed a patch under my jawline but it was my first time and this is only the second DE razor I've used.
I probably prefer something a bit more ''aggressive'' for a daily razor but I might like to keep this Feather in my collection anyway.

I have an Tradere SB and ATT Titan R1 incoming to compare

Connaught Shaving seems to have them in stock. Both the one with and without stand. I picked up the AS-D1 2 weeks ago out of fear it wouldn't become available anymore due to the AS-D2.

Still needing to shave with it. :)

I nearly bought an AS-D1 the other day, but I guess I'm going to wait for the D2...need to save up some $ anyway

I own an AS-D1 and have no desire to purchase the AS-D2. in fact, I prefer the look of the AS-D1. the blades also a touch of class, and believe the AS-D2 does not come with it.

Looks aside, it's my understanding they shave the same. can anyone confirm?

I have the AS-D2 with stand arriving at my door hopefully by Monday. I will do a review.

Had my 3rd shave with the Feather today,. and I've worked out the angles. I got a BBS shave with ease today, and very smooth razor, it doesn't feel like its doing anything at all but then your face is left BBS.
I had read on several reviews the Feather has a steeper learning curve and several people can't get good shaves with it but I don't consider 3 shaves to learn a new razor that bad.

But then again the last japanese razor I used was an Iwasaki Kamisori and that was a bit more difficult to learn to use.
