Feather Artist Club Decision

So I love my my traditional Merkur 34c double-edge, but I did enjoy using my straight from Larry a great deal. In the future I may have a piqued interest in doing all the maintenance but for right now I just simply don't have the time (between work, moving, physical therapy, etc. schedule's tight)..

have been looking at the Feather Artist Club shavettes and I don't really see much of a difference between the SS, RG, and DX aside from price and aesthetics.

You can't go wrong with whatever you choose, just take your time to learn the skill needed to shave with a Light Saber.

I have both an RG folder and a DX non folder, but not a SS so I can't tell you about the differences in the SS. I like shaving with both of them. If I had it to do over I wouldn't have spent the extra $ on the DX. There just isn't that much difference in the shave. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them and I can highly recommend the RG.

Or get a fancier one :)

Here are a couple of threads to help you decide on how to spend your money:

I have "almost" tried every single variant:
- CBJ fixed handle
- SS fixed handle
- SS folding
- DX folding
- RG fixed handle
- Kai Excelia fixed handle

I have a fixed handle DX (used) on its way to me, but so far the fixed handle RG is my go-to razor every weekday (I use traditional str8's on weekends).

I really, really enjoyed shaving with the straight..only got a few small weepers the first time or two because I had to learn the hard way that you have to be fluid in your motion and can't set down the blade and then make a pass in two separate motions.

So I think that I might get the SS.

So based on that, how hard is it rescale a razor? The SS scale looks a bit cheap (at least the colored ones; the black might not be so bad).

If you are not sure if it is for you or not try the CJB first, I love mine. Sure the fit and finish is not the best but it works the same.

It's a little tricky because the tang on the Feather is thicker than a regular straight and the pivot hole is quite large. Your best bet is to try to reuse the original pivot screw assembly which requires you to use very thin scales or countersinking the pivot holes in the scales. This is what I did, so it is doable. Here's my RG rescaled. It shaves and looks much better now.

Good luck!

That looks great, I've always wondered about recaling Feather Artist Club & Kai series. Any idea if this is likely to work with the Feather SS razors (the 'bump' along the edge has me thinking this wouldn't work)?
