What's new

favorite ingredients

I know scent is really important to me, but I love a good healing blend as well.

I've been looking over my favorite splashes and their various ingredients..I know Speick has some mineral salts, Musgo has aloe, Provence Sante (and many others) have witch hazel, lots have glycerin and some have various extracts, etc.

What do you think are the best ingredients? Aside from fragrance or alcohol are there ingredients that you specifically look for, or specifically avoid?

If it contains witch hazel, do you use separate witch hazel before the AS?

Where do you find the list of ingredients before you buy when shopping online?

Some websites (often Amazon) are generally good about posting ingredients. I just google the name + "ingredients" until I find something.

You certainly can use a witch hazel before a separate aftershave, but it might be redundant as they do the same thing: act as an astringent, disinfectant, soothe the skin, etc. Like a lot of other guys I sometimes use witch hazel as an aftershave on its own, especially if my skin is raw or sensitive. Witch Hazel followed by a balm is always a nice combo, too.

I have not found the need to double dip with the witch hazel before the balm. If a particular product looks interesting, I will head over to the manufacturers web site, and frequently can find the ingredients there. My top witch hazel-containing balms are Castle Forbes, Feather Kanwa and TOBS AS gel.
