Fatip alignment

I purchased a new Fatip, which I'm reasonably happy with, but I've noticed that I have to pay close attention to the blade alignment when I'm putting in my blade. With my Mühle R41, I just drop the blade in and tighten, and it's always dead center. But with the Fatip, I've found I have to manually align the blade as I'm tightening it. It's loose enough that until it's tightened that I can wiggle it significantly enough to make the blade cockeyed or completely uneven on the two sides. I can tighten it down in this position without using any force. Is this normal for a Fatip? It's something I could live with, but it just seems a little off.

Yes, this is pretty much the norm for a FaTip. On mine, the comb is slightly longer on one side than the other, so with the blade exposure equal on both sides, I end up with a more aggressive side. What I have been doing recently, is having more blade exposure on the milder side, in order to even up the aggressiveness. I noticed yesterday that the head on mine also needs to be adjusted , otherwise it slightly tilts towards the comb on one side! Despite the shoddy build quality, my FaTip still gives me my best shaves.

I ended up selling mine as I found, what I think is, a fault in the design.

I had the muhle R89 (when Fatip was sold as a muhle) and if you take the base plate out and look at the alignment pins, is there a groove at the bottom where the blade can easily slide in causing an uneven exposure. It might be different in your case, do you have a wiggle with the blade?

My pins have the groove at the bottom, but despite trying with the comb removed, I could not get the blade to slot into the groove. I think that there is even less chance of this happening when the handle is screwed on, as it causes the blade to curve between the end cap & the comb.

I only recently found out about the existence of the Muhle R89 variant of the Fatip. What was the finish like?

If I pressed the blade to follow the curve of the cap, I was then able to make the blade slide in that groove. I you push the base plate on the blade without the handle you might be able to slide the blade (and dis-align/realign it).

Anyways, the finish was great, no issues on that one. I really liked that the handle, good grip.

I think I'll pass on that, as I prefer to have five fingers on each hand! :001_rolle
