Fatboy Replate

I recently sent my 1959 Fatboy to Dave (onotoman) for replating in the original bright nickel finish and could not be happier with the results. This thing looks like it just left the factory yesterday. The finish is absolutely uniform and polished to a shine that I'm pretty sure I could use to signal passing aircraft if I'm ever stranded on a desert island. I see now why he comes so highly recommended on this board. His work really is first-rate!

Here are some pics to give you an idea. Sorry for the bad lighting. It's been gray and rainy for the past few days and I'm no great shakes as a photographer even in the best of circumstances:

If anyone is considering having a razor restored, I'll add my name to the long list of Dave's satisfied customers. His prices are more than reasonable and the turnaround time is excellent!

Looks wonderful.
Was it pretty beat up beforehand?

Not too bad, actually, but the numbers were faded and there was some brassing on the knurling and guard bar. The main difference is that I now have to wear eye protection when looking directly at it :biggrin1:

You've caused a problem for me.

I now want one of these :)

Go for it! This has quickly become my favorite razor (functionally and aesthetically) and user-grade examples aren't hard to come by. It's a lot more economical to have a less-than-immaculate Fatboy restored than paying the exorbitant prices that pristine specimens fetch on ebay these days.

+1 from me on the great service from Dave. He's just done a slim in Rhodium and a superspeed in nickel for me. Both look superb.
