Fatboy Question

One of the Fatboys I have with a "E" date code is different from my 2 "G" Fatboys. The "G's" have a solid black ring just below the adjustment band with no space between the adjustment band and the ring. The "E" has a space between the adjustment band and the black ring. And, the ring looks like it is brass that was painted black.

Can anyone explain the difference?

If photos will help, I'll post some.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Thanks for taking the time. I checked the link and there are other links as well that lead to another post about it and as it turns out the Fatboy I have is a E1 which is mention in the other thread. Seems E1 was a transition year between the prototype Red Dot Fatboy with a D1 code and the E1. The adjustment band and the black ring on the two are the same. In fact, one poster in the thread says he has both a E1 and E2 and the E1 has the space (a la Red Dot) and the E2 doesn't. So ineffect, you answered my question. Thanks.

I guess that makes the E1 rarer than the others but not as rare as the D1!

I juat happen to have an E1 sitting right here! It also has the gold ring, and a space, AND the the indicator (normally red, shows the position of the adjuster) is gold too. I was thinking of selling it, but I may need to keep it :001_smile

I knew I had a couple E-1's, three actually, all have the black ring. I had read somewhere (quite possibly the thread cited) that the appearance of the "brass ring" was a sign of wear/aging/paint loss, but who knows. I have seen them with the brass ring, usually in more worn condition overall.

Yes, on mine, the "brass" ring has black residual paint that has mostly worn off. It is not a red dot but the indicator has a red color to it, not golden.
