Fat Boy Replacement ...

About two months ago I started using my father's 1958 Fat Boy ... the shave has been fantastic (since I found the right setting) and with the tips on this site I have been getting a much better lather than I did before.

My problem is that the handle of the Fat Boy is just a little too short!

Can someone recommend a razor that has the weight and the feel of the Fat Boy but with a slightly longer handle?

The Slim Adjustable weighs a little less, and has a smaller head profile, but many folks here like them.

I have never used a Fat Boy but love my Slim. Great razor.

unfortunately there are not too many adjustable razors out there, I would also suggest the Gillete adjustable mk2 aka Slim, The Gillette Super adjustable (long handle) and the Merkur progress/mergress (long handle).

Super adjustable (black beauty) are one of my favorites. The Merkur Progress is also a great adjustable shaver (non-TTO).

I believe Bobs Razorworks offers a conversion to a longer handle...but I wouldn't do it to a family heirloom. Find one that needs refinishing anyway.

Note, that all of the pictured TTO razors that have been upgraded with Bob's handles have the TTO knob at the top of the razor just underneath the head. They are also not adjustables.

Bob is not offering replacement handles for regular Superspeeds, or Adjustables. The placement of the TTO knob on the bottom of the razor makes replacing the handle vastly more complex.

As for the original question in this thread, I would recommend the Long Handle Super Adjustable. I own one, and it is a wonderful, very smooth shaver!!

My bad...thanks for the correction. Try a Slim...the handle is longer, but it shaves much like the Fatboy.

another vote for the Slim. It doesn't weigh quite as much, but the handle is longer and the head profile slightly less bulky. It's a great razor and my every day gig.

Long Handled Super Adjustable from the 70's sounds like what you're after. Not as fat as a fatboy but TTO and similiar to a slim.

Definitely Slim Adjustable. They are as heavy as the Fatboy, but with a longer handle and a lower profile head (as luvmysuper said) so you can fit it under your nose. They are all over ebay, and you could probably cajole someone here to sell you one in the WTB forum (it's in the Buy-Sell-Trade forum).
