Fast-drying Ink Compendium (Help for Lefties)

My dad's a lefty, and I need to find him some fast-drying ink for his fountain pens, most of which are fairly wet writers with medium nibs. He tends to run the side of his hand over the text he's written.

I was hoping folks could post some basic info about their favorite fast-drying inks, so this could perhaps be included in the sticky containing ink reviews. It may also encourage some lefties to try a fountain pen.

Here are my entries:

  • Parker Quink Blue-Black - Dries fast, doesn't seem to feather easily, can slow down a wet writer.
  • Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black - Same as above but also quite water resistant. Difficult to find in the US, however.
  • Pelikan 4001 Black - Same as above. 3 to 5 second dry time, depending on the paper.

Thanks all!

I have success with quick drying times with Diamine ink. Ink drying times are in part are determined by the nib too. A fine nib will put down a drier line, a broad nib a much wetter line.

I'm not a huge fan of Noodler's inks, but this was my first bottled FP ink and it worked really well for me. It does dry pretty quickly, but the color isn't fantastic but interesting, and it's was well behaved in several of my pens. Bernanke Blue and there's also a Black. They also have one called Q'ternity

I didn't use this color long because once I started slowing down, most inks dry quickly enough to prevent me from smudging with my hand.

I meant, all other things being equal, what are the fastest drying inks you have? If you ran all your inks through one pen, which inks would dry fastest?

My fastest drying ink would be Noodlers Black.
Haven't had any problems so far and my hand is still it's original colour.
After last night's class my hand is Pelikan Sapphire

Pelikan 4001 Black is my fastest drying ink- a smidge faster than Blue-Black when run through my M200 medium nib.

I'd have to look through tests to confirm. .. which I don't want to do,

But I believe my Monteverde turquoise ink is my quickest drying ink

Noodlers Black dries fastest for me, but creates flow issues with some pens, and Quink is the best overall I have found with black inks.

As a leftie I've searched for the perfect mythical combination you seek. So far I have had success with Bernanke blue, heart of darkness, and four of the J Herbin inks I've tried. The paper also makes a huge difference. It's fall here in Minnesota and so I know that I can get by with a wetter ink because of the change in humidity. When you find that sweet spot of nib, paper, and ink let us know.
