What's new

Facial hair renovation.

So after sporting the chin goatee for about the last year I shaved it off. I found myself always picking at it while in thought (especially while in meetings at work). It seemed in bad taste so away it went this evening. I did leave the soul patch...though I may mow it down as well.

Anyone do any renovation on their facial hair recently?

Not recently, but I understand where you're coming from. I had a full beard for a number of years and picked at it whenever I was lost in a train of thought. The only reason I grew it was to provide some relief to my wife's delicate face.

I too just shaved off the thin goatee. It seems that now that I have discovered wetshaving and the DE razor that I don't mind shaving since I don't get a wicked burn anymore.

Wait, do mean ON PURPOSE?? My goatee got a little skinnier the other day, but I hadn't actually planned for that to happen!

Just shaved my goatee too. I can grow it fairly quickly, so it comes and goes according to mood.

I have a need for facial hair. I look way too young without any and I can't stand it. I had been sporting a goatee for about 6 years until this past summer when I decided to go with a mustache only (I've also grown my hair out since last December). I have a great 70's porn look going and I don't want to mess with perfection... Maybe it's time to get that goatee back in action, though.

Oddly enough, I just lopped off my goatee/moustache combination yesterday morning (Two days ago basically, since it's 3am now). Over the weekend and for a couple months before that SWMBO told me that the moustache was creating havoc on her face, and that sort of helped spur me on. Since getting into wet-shaving with soaps I've sort of been eying it as a way to open new lathering territory to experiment on with my new hobby. I also sort of felt like I was using it as a crutch to look older when maybe a nice, close shave and some confidence do the job better than the facial hair. Finally these factors won out.

I feel like I get a better lather when I can just swirl the brush willy-nilly over my whole face instead of sort of working around the facial hair. I bowl lather anyway, but that extra momentum seems to help the application process. Plus, wiping off and reapplying the lather to try to get perfectly clean lines was such a PITA and a time-waster.

Incidentally, the first time I've gone clean shaven in a year, I think.
