Expensive!

A little earlier today I was going through the Macy's website to see what kind of shave gear they have. Sifting through the AoS products, I came across their styptic pencil made of...you guessed it... alum, and I simply couldn't believe how much they were charging. $18. That's six times the 20% larger Clubman pencil's average price of $2.99 for a grand total of $22.50/oz. (Sorry for all the numbers, that's just the way my head works) Even if it is better, there is no way it's 7 1/2 times better. I knew I never trusted the way AoS capitalized on being an "upscale" brand but now I just think that their other products must be 7 1/2 times more expensive than they are worth too. Even worse, I can't stop wondering, what kind of things have I purchased where I just got taken for a fool?

That is the price of not having much competition. Most people use the canned goo and a multiblade razor or an electric. The lack of physical shaving dedicated stores is what causes the price gouging. It really is a shame there aren't more around.

I think AoS soaps and creams are priced fair given the quality of the product.

I'm scared to think about how I got ripped off in the past. Just buying things with little knowledge of whether they were any good. Lucky we now have forums such as this fine one where people can hopefully learn from our mistakes.

I've been suspicious of AoS for a long time. Trying to convince a Mach 3/Fusion customer that they'd get a better shave by buying a $100 handle tells me that they should change their name to Art of Snakeoil. And now that they're owned by P&G tells me that they won't get any better. I'll stick with the vendors that don't operate in expensive malls and products I only seem to be able to find online even if I have to pay shipping.
