Eversharp Hydro-magic?

I went to the barbershop today. I was telling the barber that I recently started shaving with a safety razor. He opened the drawer and handed me a razor that is gold with plastic ribbed black handles. It says "Eversharp Hydro-magic" on it. He suggested I use something like that to shave with. I asked him where I would find one. He put a new blade in it and said you can have it. What can you guys tell me about it?

It's an injector razor. You have a magazine of blades, and using a repeating rifle motion, pop one blade out and insert another. It's a later model, and many consider a hydromagic to be their favorite injector. It has that lever on the underside, to assist with cleaning. Many will be along to tell you even more specifics about it.

You just got a great Schick injector. The HM can be easily opened for cleaning and/or blade changes. You can find new injector blades or NOS injector blades as well.

Enjoy!

The HM was made from 1955-1958, and it is my favorite injector. Great, great razor. I would like to correct one point that Jeff made, you cannot change the blade if the lever is in the open position. When it's open for cleaning the blade is locked into place to prevent it from falling out.

Tom, thanks for the correction. My apologies for the bad data. I was thinking it was similar to the E models, where you can open the razor.

If the razor is facing you like you'd shave with it, on the right side there should be a slot to stick the key end of the injector box into. Then on the top of the injector box, you pull back the slide and then move it forward. That forward motion is what loads the blade (and ejects the one already in the razor, if there is one).

How generous! That's definitely a sought-after injector. Depending on conditions, those can go for $20-50 on eBay.

I've pretty much fallen into a 3-way rotation of the Hydro-Magic, VAS VC4, and a Gem du jour(HFT, Clog-Pruf, Push Button, etc.). The Hydro-magic lever is one of the great inventions in shaving technology. I like a well-rinsed blade :biggrin1:.

The Hydro-Magic is one of my favorite injector types,I used mine today and got a great shave. It's also a wonderful head shaver.
