Ever-Ready Restore #1 (Pics)

These are pics of my 1st Ever-Ready restore. I purchased the handle on the bay. I purchased a 20mm Silvertip from the GN. (Excellent customer service)
I Hope you enjoy....The knot was set @ 53mm for a total height of 106mm.

That's a great looking brush you have there but I know the purists around here will say there should be more progress pics. I'm doing a restore at the moment and documenting everything!

What did you use to get it so clean? I can't get over how the lettering whitened up so well!! And how do you like the 20mm silvertip? I am ordering one for a brush of mine.

I cleaned it w/ hot soapy water and a toothbrush, polished it w/ 0000 steel wool, rubbing compound, and Wicked plastic polish. For the lettering, I repainted them. And yes I like the Silvertip, it's a very nicely shaped knot with great characteristics and a nice loft set at 53mm. Good luck w/ yours and thanks for the questions!!

Wow looks great. Good job Keith! I'm going to steal that from you next time we work together... hee hee.

Very nice job! The brush looks great. It is alway fun to see a brush come back to life. Each time I see a brush restore on here I get a smile on my face. Thanks for the pics.

Beautiful work. I have the same brush and am going slow so as not to goof it up. I have a number of questions and would so appreciate your response. Could you detail the knot removal process (all drills, bit sizes, and other tools used.) How deep did you drill/sand. What materials on the original brush did you pass through - rubber? plaster? Did you mask the top of the brush with tape to prevent scratching. What glue did you use to set the knot. The knot looks deeply set. How many mm below the top of the handle is the base of the knot. Many thanks in advance.

Thank you, Darjeeling. I started by cutting the old knot out w/ scissors. Then I used a 3/8" drill bit to drill out the middle of the knot (not getting close to the sides) once I had enough room to get my dremel tool in the middle I switched to a coarse round bit to finish up cleaning the hole out. I next punched all the way through the old knot base w/ drill bit, and finished up cleaning it up. I did not mask the top of the brush, I was just real careful.
The glue I used was Locktite 2 part epoxy. To set my knot depth I cut down a wine bottle cork enough to set the loft at 53mm. I epoxied the cork and the knot in at the same time. My loft is a little tall, set yours at whatever you like. I hope that helps, hit me up if you have anymore questions.

Thanks for the information in detail. Other restorers seem to forget that the novices want to learn tricks as well.

Again, Thanks.

Great job on a very nice brush. I really should try and finish some of the brushes I have started but not finished.
