Ever-Ready Forever!

I got my dad a Rooney 3/1 in best for Christmas, thinking that he'd like to retire the Ever-Ready he's used (except for the hiatus years of foam in a can) since...the early '60s?

I visited him last week and found he had both brushes out and sitting on pucks of soap. He said the Provence Sante I had also given him at Christmas is the best soap he's used, but that the Rooney is just too stiff and scrubby - not soft and smooth like his trusty Ever-Ready.

We decided that I should "break in" the Rooney for him for awhile and then see how it shapes up against his reigning champion. I used it today and love it. It's nice and firm and scritchy compared to my 2008 B&B LE and makes a good change of pace. And, whether or not it ends up living with dad or me, it's a win-win.

Still, don't underestimate the Ever-Ready.

Its not that its better. Its because he's used to it. Older ppl change their habbits harder.
Advice: Keep the 3/1 and get him a 2/1:wink:

I have a quiver of Ever-Ready brushes and they are my personal favorite. I've also restored a few. It's an all around fantastic brush.

I have an EverReady 750 in pure badger, probably from the late-50's. I got it NOS and like it very much. It is nowhere as dense or stiff as contemporary brushes, but it does an outstanding job and is very comfortable. It is probably a 18mm knot or so, and somewhat 'floppy' in todays terms. But it's in my rotation of eight brushes and I like it better than most.
