Ever-Ready Brush Find

Yesterday while stopping at a grocery store I usually don't shop at in another town on the way home from church (we go to a church about 35 minutes from home), I spotted something I never expected to see in a grocery store. For the low price of $7.99, they had Ever-Ready shave brushes for sale! I had no idea you could even buy this famous brand in a retail shop. They state "Natural Bristles" which I assume is boar after feeling them. They have the classic red and cream-colored two-tone handle. On the bottom of the box, it says it was made or distributed by ASR, copyrighted in 2003.

So this morning, with my Van DerBrut-alow soap concoction, I gave it a first try. The amount of lather it produced completely blew away my usual VDH boar brush and my Simpsons badger brush. Seriously, it was the best lather I've ever seen. Paired with my go-to Crystal blade and a Super Speed...I just had one of my best shaves ever, even on my neck.

Best yet, it fits in my custom shave stand that I designed around the VDH handle, so I can hang it upside down to dry. My Simpsons brush handle doesn't fit, so I relegated that to travel use with CO Bigelow, especially since it doesn't do as well as a boar with soaps.

So strolling down the shaving aisle of every store I walk into actually paid off BIG TIME.

Nice find, and which grocery store?

Local store: Kennie's Market (yes, they spell it like that), a small family-owned chain of supermarkets in PA and MD.

Guarantee most of you have never heard of and will never see one of these.

They had 3 left. Now they have 2. :001_cool:

It looks just like the vintage Ever-Ready brushes. Despite being an ASR product like the Walmart blades, it performs incredibly.

Oh yes, IT DID NOT SHED like the VDH...not one loose hair. My VDH is now in the medicine cabinet. Sure, the new one doesn't match my bathroom like the VDH did (navy blue), but who cares...lather out the wazoo.

The same brush is also sold as a Burma-Shave, sometimes found in Meijer stores for those of you near the Great Lakes.

I picked up the Burma Shave branded one off of BST a while back. Not a bad boar at all....and a much more classic look than the VdH cheapie.

Darn it...lost a hair this morning. Just one. Explosive lather still there.

Far better than the VDH that's been shedding for a year and started out losing about 5 per shave.
