Ever Ready 30

Pic posted.

Any suggestions for a knot that would work nicely in an Ever Ready 30 handle? I'm thinking of Best as I'm looking for a nice all rounder.

I have a couple of the Best knots (18 and 20mm) they are really very nice. I put one in an EverReady 150 and it is close to my favorite brush.

I recommend a short loft....mine are set at 42-44mm. They bloom like crazy, scrub up soap very well, and face lather like dream brushes set this low.

Here's the Ever Ready 30 as it arrived.

Think at some point in the past it's had a haircut! :w00t:

Handle is 4.5cm high, current knot diameter looks to be 17mm....I'll have a better idea after I've cleaned out the old knot. I think it will suit a "two band finest" from Tony at GN.

ooh nice handle.. you're going to want to cut that as close to the handle as you can, then you can get in there with the dremel and go to town! Good luck be sure to update us with some pictures when you're done.

(PS I'd go with the regular stuffed Silvertip if I were you)

I like the handle too....it's even nicer than it looked on the bay. Feels nice too. No noticeable stains.

I've been practising hair removal on the wooden handles of a couple of cheap nylon brushes.

Looks like I'm going to be restricted to either 16x60mm Finest or16x55mm Best. Measured the current knot at 17mm at base of bristles. I'll know for definite once I've cleaned it out. I don't want to risk damaging the handle by trying to enlarge it.

Just had a closer look at the label...was going to ask about highlighting the lettering...it's actually a Culmak (not an Ever Ready as advertised).

Look at Tony's 20mm UK Pure Dark too...it comes undersized in the 16-17mm range. For that handle though I think the Best or Finest would be a perfect choice.

The lower loft Best would be my choice if you do not drill this out deeper though.

Really a fine handle...

I'll see what it looks like inside....again I don't want to remove too much of the handle.

Mmmm just seen the UK Pure Dark :tongue_sm But the two band finest against the "cream" handle is still top of my list.

Just taken the old knot out....didn't need to drill...just gave centre a good tug with pliers!

Internal diameter is 16.5mm Depth is 18mm. It's a bit "chalky" inside, will remove that with dremel sanding drum. I'm guessing some of it's old soap residue.

There's a very slight overhang on the inside edge.

Is it best to give it a wash/soak at this stage?

I did wash my handles at this stage. Polish up the handle too if you are going to do that (though this one looks pretty clean).

With that depth you can set either the Finest or Best at your choice of lofts.

No stains or scuffs after a quick wash in some anti-bacterial hand soap. Any recommendations on suitable polishes? Any problems likely if I drop a washer into the base with the epoxy? It will give the handle a tiny bit extra weight and level support. Should let me set the loft at 45mm.

I have used Flitz and Wenol polish on some of my handles. Careful around the imprint, and make sure they do not stain. That handle does not look like it needs polishing though.

As to the washer...I would be careful as I see over time water getting down to it and rusting. I would use a thin slice of cork as a shim to lift the knot, or a stainless steel washer or a piece of lead if you are going for weight.

Many thanks for the tips. Was thinking of a ss washer.
