Ever-Ready 1924 - What's the story here?

I bought two razors through ebay this week. Both Ever-Ready razors have very similar handles and, I think, identical heads. One was listed as a 1924. The other was listed as a Shovelhead. They look pretty much the same to me, with the exception of the collar (or neck -- not sure what to call it).

As you can see in the picture below, one razor has an elongated collar. As a result that razor is a little taller. Otherwise, they seem identical. The difference in height is illustrated in the picture.

Are they different examples of the 1924? Maybe manufactured in different years?

I shaved with the shorter razor today, and it was probably the best SE shave I've ever experienced.

The shovel head is a nickname given to the 1924's so yes, it's the same razor. Your photos don't show enough of the razor to truly diagnose the issue but I will hazard a guess. You said one razor was shorter. I would guess you got one of the travel versions of the razor and one regular size version. The travel versions came with shorter handles. Of course they could have been manufactured in different years as well and that could account for the neck difference too. These razor companies were nothing if not prolific about changing minutia in their razors!

Thanks for the response. I hadn't thought that one might be a travel version. They're pretty close in size. The longer one is only a head taller.

In the picture below, the bottom of each razor is even with the edge of the counter.

The shorter 1924 razor with the thicker neck (that I own) came in a hammered holder that was called the "Wall Cabinet Model" similar to the Gem Minute Man set (which was a 1912 model with a similar handle). I have seen the shorter model come this way though they could also be from a travel set as ShavinBacon noted. I think the travel set is the 1925 Sport case.

I'm not sure on that "travel" razor. With a shorter handle, I assume the travel part is right.

However, I've not seen that extension under the head before, and I don't see it in the photos of the "Wall Cabinet" either.

Looking in Waits, I see it on a "cigarette case model", but there's not a lot showing the correct angle to look for it.
