Ever Ready 1912 In Need Of Fixing

I got my first Ever Ready 1912 yesterday but it was missing the top cap (doh!).
The seller has refunded my payment and very generously let me keep the incomplete razor.

Any suggestions as to how to make a fix for this missing piece.
Or has anyone got a spare top cap lying around that they'd be willing to sell (I'm in UK)?:

1912 closed combs are very common. It's probably not worth the effort to repair it (unless you're just into fixing stuff). I'd save the handle for a spare.

Note: The handles on many 1912s are not interchangeable as GEM changed the diameter and thread pitch of the stud.

Cheaper less hectic if you buy another one.

Hmm...there's a consensus here eh?
I suppose I'll just use the refund to get another one.

But I do like fixing things and, weirdly, when we were clearing out the kitchen drawer I found a plastic tab that fits the clip tab exactly so I feel a project coming on...

Just for the heck of it, try loading a blade and see how stable it is. The tab at the back is descended from the tab on the old lather catchers and will hold the blade against the stops, but whether the stops are enough to keep the edge from moving up and down without the pressure from the top cap, and whether the tab exerts enough pressure to keep the blade from moving side to side, I don't know. I've wanted a topless 1912 to experiment with, but haven't ever found one. Will you be our guinea pig?

Back online now!
Thanks for the suggestion- I tried it and it worked great.
Here's my topless 1912:

Ha ha- then I knackered it trying to use the head off a Gem Featherweight (doh!) but it shaved magnificently and inspired me to buy a complete (and beautiful) 1912:

Now I understand what all the fuss is about!

I have one of these that I can't wait to try. All the SE blades that I have are too narrow , I have ordered some Gem SE so hopefully they will fit.
where did you get the lades for his one and what ones did you use?

I'm in UK and eBay is packed full of the generic Personna carbon steel "009 RD" blades which I've been using, mainly from automotive bodyshop suppliers.
I was concerned that they might not be sharp enough, but actually I can get three good shaves from each blade.
Further reading on the internet suggests that they are the same as ASR's branded Gem blades etc, which all carry the "009 RD" (for .009" Regular Duty) inscription on the spine.
And yes this razor has been giving me the most astonishing shaves :001_smile
