Ever~Ready 100S

Hey all,

I picked up this Ever~Ready 100S to restore for myself.

I've pulled the old knot out and I'm just getting prepared to buy a replacement. I've restored another brush before but much smaller.

Now for my question. The hole in approximately 26mm in diameter, should I be buying a knot as close as possible to this? I don't want a gap, but I just want to make sure I buy the right knot for this.

I'm thinking the 26mm Super Badger Bulb from TGN at this point.

When you say approximately, do you mean larger or smaller? If its less I'd go for 24, but If its more I'd go for 26. Mine was almost 23, so I bought a 22. It fit through the hole pretty tight, so I opened it up just a hair to avoid problems when using the epoxy. One way or the other you may have to open up the top or sand a little of the knot base. However, even with the good fit it still had some play on the shelf. Good luck with it, you'll love it when it's finished!

Thanks Docd, its pretty much 26mm right on the money. I think you're right I can just open it up a tad if the 26mm is a little big.

Thanks for the advice!

Great looking handle you found. You've already received the correct advice about sizing. Dry fit everything a couple of times. It should be loose but not sloppy. The epoxy will fill any space as long as it is not too great.

Here is a hint for you if you do not already know.

Cover the handle with masking tape and cut out the knot hole. This will help keep any rogue epoxy from getting on the handle while you are spreading it around inside the hole and dropping the knot in. I like to put epoxy inside the handle and on the knot, then press them together, giving a quarter turn to seat everything and ensure a good bond. Once the knot is in, remove the tape and look for any epoxy that may have seeped under the tape at the knot hole.

Try and resist using or fiddling with the brush for 48-72 hours (this seems like a long time but when factored against the life of the brush it is nothing)

Good job so far. I always get a knot one size smaller (if its 26 i'd go 24) just so i know it fits, and it'll sit lower and be a little scrubbier when used. Either way its gonna look good!

Thanks all. I did end up ordering the 26mm before I saw your post NexlevMM, hopefully it turns out

I'll post some after pictures soon as the new knot is in.

This is the old knot inserted back, the neat thing about this handle is the bottom screws off and the old knot was held in by plaster, I chipped away at it with a pick, now that it's been removed and cleaned out with some sand paper the old knot can be inserted and removed at will. I stuck it back in to give you an idea on how I got it (minus the work I already did polishing it).

Finally, mailman delivered my TGN package today :)

Still needs a bit of time before I can get it wet but here is the final look:

Good job! A great color combo that cleaned up nice.
Looking forward to the action shots and a full breakdown of your first run with that green/black beauty. :biggrin1:
