the "evap-rust" sounds like what we called "naval jelly" back in the old days...

This stuff works great at removing rust. It's very nontoxic, and is not phosphoric acid based. It is also reusable, although eventually loses it's punch. The only drawback is that it leaves the steel a dull gray color. I have used it to restore badly rusted chisels, but have not used it for razors. If you want a shiny, or even a matte finish, you'll still need a lot of hand work. Not sure it would save a lot of effort, since a blade rusted that badly would not be salvageable. For big thick chunks of metal it is great.
If you use this will a simple buffing job shine it up?
mechanical always beats chemical, unless its strong enough to dissolve your hand, think about it, its metal after all, ive been dissappointed with these miracle things before i only use on complex joints where sandpaper cant reach
I have used it and even posted some pics of the process in the restoration board. Does a better job of saving metal if it is savable. Still use it for restoring blades. Best use - for me - is that I don't run the risk of sanding off an engraving on an old razor if it is just surface rust.
