What's new

Esoterica Penzance tobacco

I am coming to my brothers of the BL for a little direction! Is it possible to obtain Penzance anymore? It seems as if EVERYONE is out of stock. Has it been discontinued???
Any advice wold be appreciated!
Thanks,
BK

It's not discontinued, it's just in short supply. It shows up every couple of months or so though.

Stonehaven and Penzance are both extremely hard to come by. Best bet is to put in an "in stock" alert on a few vendor web sites and buy it AS SOON AS the email hits your inbox.

I think I have some... I'm almost positive I do.

I have no idea when they will send me home again but when they do I'll look..
If so I'll send you some.

My last bag came from Iwan Ries, and that was several months ago. There should be some coming out soon IMO.

Thanks for the input guys! I appreciate it!!
i guess the old saying is true!!!!! He is always watching!!!

I tried for several months to find some, and finally got lucky with an on-line vendor after seeing a post here that they had it in stock. By the time I checked out they were sold out again.

Just my opinion here, so don't jump all over me guys - but seriously, I don't get what the big deal about Penz is. I've burned through a few tins of it, and have a half-pound sitting in the cellar, but I really don't think it is the be-all and end-all of tobaccos that it is made out to be.
I'm not saying it is terrible, it is certainly a good blend, but I would hesitate to call it great. Compared with any of the other blends in the Esoterica lineup, Penzance is about as complex as chewing on a tire. The lingering aftertaste borders on foul, while the room-note and latent smell of the smoke left on ones clothing is repugnant according to my wife. It ghosts pipes from across the room, and is almost as difficult to exorcise as Lakelands.

I guess what I am saying is that if you can snag a tin, don't hesitate, however it's simply not worth the energy expenditure hunting for when there are so many other blends that are exceptional out there...including other blends coming out of Esoterica...which are much more readily available or don't require the exchange of a limb and/or your first-born.

Scarcity drives the hype. Samuel Gawith, Dunhill, and Escudo all had their moment in the sun while they were in short supply in resent years, but now that their production and distribution issues are over with they are no big deal again.

Actually of all the scarce tobaccos, I am a big Penzance fan. Not at all disappointed. I wouldn't pay a premium for it though.

Esoterica ships in batches to the US so when you see one place has it, most of the other places will get it around the same time. My local shop stocks it so it's very easy to walk in and grab a bag when they come in. The tins are much harder to come by from my experience.

I do want to give it a try one day, but I'm also not going to make it my life's work to chase down an elusive tin of tobacco. I fear that with all the buildup it will be like finally meeting that gorgeous woman from the Fiat 500 Abarth commercial only to find that she has chronic halitosis and a big pulsing mole with a giant hair sticking out of it... mayb some things should be admired from afar... who am I kidding, I'd love to try it, and as for her even if she did have breath like a garbage truck in July in Louisiana and a giant pulsating mutant zombie mole nothing a breath mint and a band aid can't fix!!

I've enjoyed Penzance, but I'm not going to kill for it. Maybe I've not developed the nuanced taste buds (ie. fried tongue) of a more seasoned pipe smoker. I haven't got into the Stonehaven yet, as it seems like I already have too many jars open as it is!
