Enola Gay cockpit

These are awesome. There was one of a P51 posted earlier.

As for the Enola Gay, it is famous as an airplane because of 1 thing; dropping the A-Bomb in hiroshima. So, if you didn't know, now you do.

Other than that it is just a stripped version of a B29.

Thanks for posting.

It's a "Silverplate" B-29, stripped of Armaments, beefed up engines, changed bomb bay, couple of other things I can't remember right now. My grandfather was a B-24 pilot in the 5th USAAF, in the southwest Pacific, we talked about the B-29, he instructed on them after he rotated back in '45. He was amazed of how far airplane design came from the B-17 to the B-29 in 4 short years.

I went to see her last year. The Dulles Air and SPace Museum is outstanding. If your into that kind of thing I highly recommend it. There is no lack of aircraft, missle, strange aircraft in that place. Heck, even the Space Shuttle Enterprise is in there. They have a helicopter powered by an Evinrude outboard, and if you've ever had any experience with the old Evinrudes you wouldn't want to bet your life on one

I got the chance to go to the museum about 2 weeks ago when I was taking a class at Quantico. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the amount of aircraft they wedged into that building.

Very cool. Being about a 20 min drive form the dulles place i reccomend anyone who is in the area to check it out. There is just so much awsomeness and great history there.

That is an excellent slide show. I like to build models of the WWII birds, so photos like that are very intriguing to me. I will wear a hole in my mousepad with that one!
Thanks!
and Merry Christmas!

I want to see that and Bock's Car before I kick off. :thumbup1:

You know not many folks know the name of the other aircraft that dropped the second one. The 509th bomb wing is still in service (Whiteman AFB) and one of the grandchildren of Tibbets is a B-2 pilot. Pretty cool huh!

Note the 5 pumpkin bomb silhouettes, four black and the one red representing the Nagasaki mission.
