English Leather Black

I was picking up some stuff at the drugstore today and found a tiny bottle of English Leather Black in the discount bin. Got it for a buck. Anybody have any opinions about it? Out of the bottle it smells like Cusson's Imperial Leather AS to me.

I've been using their AS it reminds me of Grandpa. He used there products forever. I haven't had the opportunity to try the Cologne I cant find any ? So for me it's a memory that I enjoy.

I got a bottle when it first came out... I wasn't very thrilled. I don't remember enough about it to draw any comparisons to Cussons either way.

I still think that it resembles the Imperial Leather AS, but it goes on with a strange synthetic citrus note. Quite strong. I just tried it out on the back of my hand so I'll reserve judgment until I can put it on after I shave.

Have you given it a try yet ? I'm kind of wanting to try some as well. Or I should say my wife really is.

I did give it a try. I shaved, used the regular English Leather aftershave and then remembered the Black. It fit in nicely but has a brighter citrus scent than the regular English Leather. It lasted fairly long and, although it mellowed out a lot, continued to smell good. I'd go for it if I were you. Especially if this means your wife approving of buying a bottle of cologne.

Thats excellent. I love the AS cheap but good memories and if the black works with it great as well it's inexpensive. I'm on a Bologna wallet budget right now.

I hear that. I'm going to nurse the little one that I got for a while, then maybe buy a bigger one. English Leather is kind of a new discovery for me--my brother wore it back in the day but i never tried it. When I use up the little ones I have, I'll get a couple more in a larger size and probably add a full-size EL Black too.

Nid, if you like English Leather, my favorite from them was always Lime. I mention it because you'll see it pop up occasionally at antique/thrift stores.

I've been keeping my eye out for some, but without much luck. Maybe over the winter something will turn up. The last couple of times that I've hit thrift shops and antique stores looking for stuff, all I've found is Avon. Every single place I went. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't even wash my dog with that stuff.

I think some of the decanters are pretty nifty, but yeah- Wild Country anything pretty much makes me nauseous.

I saw the lime on ebay just the night before last. I have never tried any of the lime AS or colognes. I'm new to using any of this really. Until I started shaving with a straight last month the last bottle of cologne I had was in the late 80's a girlfriend bought me some Polo. I never took to waring any until now.

I was pretty much the same. I used whatever cologne that I got for a present or that we might pick up in a duty free or discount store. Maybe owned two at a time. I never used aftershave lotion either--either Nivea or Afta balm. It's been interesting learning about cool colognes, but my favorite discovery has been how great most of the drugstore aftershaves that I've been avoiding turn out to be. Clubman, Aqua Velva, English Leather--all that stuff is fantastic.
