Any difference between these 2 except price? I hear my beard really snap/pop when using the R89; but the EJ DE89 gives a great shave as well...albeit less noisy. What's your preference?

They both use the same head; only the handles are different.
They say it's basicly the same razor.
Are they not exactly the same head with different handles?
They are the exact same head.
The price depends on location. I think in Germany the price difference is flipped.
I really like the Barley Chrome EJ handle, but I've gotten used to the lighter weight of the Muhle handles.

i actually prefer my Muhle handle. i have a blk handle EJ, chrome hanldle EJ and a Muhle chrome handle.
i find the ligher handle works best for me, with the 89 head. the barley is also very nice and i enjoyed that one too.
the Barley and Muhle are the nicest looking stock 89 handles (aside from the chatsworths and muhle sylos etc).
can't go wrong with any of them.

yeah, they are overpriced in N/America, but the Muhle R89 can be had for under $40 from a few UK vendors.
go with DE89. it's just as great quality as the R89 but it's a lot cheaper.
the Muhle R89 is as cheap as the DE89, you just have to look ($37 shipped to CAD)....not sure that is "a lot" cheaper then the DE89.
nothing against either, but for the same price, i choose the muhle. if and when i get another EJ model, it will be the EJ Barley.

The DE89 isn't "a lot cheaper," that was his point. You can find the R89 for less than the DE89. No need to get snippy.
