What's new

Edwin Jagger

HI guys ,I have tryed lot of soaps and creams all have given a good shave,Till now
I have shaved 7 time with EJ Sea buckthorn, Diffirent combos still the same, razor
skips and pulls, makes for a hard shave love the scent tho but have given up on it.

Is It just me or did i get a bad one??

You know it took me a while to realize it. But my best shaves never happened with the EJ soap. It works okay but I only got average to below average shaves with it. It's too bad cause I really enjoyed the mild scent and I found it easy to lather. To the bath it went. I'm sure it works fine for some people out there, YMMV and all that jazz.

I got a puck in a kit that I first bought and it smells great but does not hang with the good stuff out there. Use it for hand or shower soap.

It's an "OK" soap - the sort of thing I wouldn't want to throw away if I were given it as a gift. But there are better ones out there. The EJ soaps have some great scents though. I think they have matching ASB in the scents as well - don't know how they perform though.

I definitely like my EJ Seabuckthorn and matching ASB (SWMBO loves it too!:biggrin1:). Not superior to say MWF or Cella of course but a very good soap IMHO.

Perhaps you must adjust the water-product ratio. Perhaps is it the hardness of the water? YMMV as always.

It could well be the water as well - it's very hard in my area.
I think if they made the soap pucks a bit bigger though that could help. Seems that they are so small they just spin around whilst I try to lather them, which is annoying.

I might be tempted by their ASBs again - the Sea Buckthorn and Aloe Vera were both magnificent scents. I've seen them in store at Harrods.

Yes, definitely small. In fact I bought the EJ silvertip medium (it's small, actually!) for these soaps! I also use a Simpson Classic 2.

The ASB are top notch. They leave my skin protected and moisturized especially in winter time. In summer time I simply don't use them, too hot here in Spain! I use splashes or less dense balms like I Coloniali.

Have a look at Amazon UK; from time to time they have nice offers on EJ ASB.

Guess you're not such a Useless Shaver after all  - thanks for the tips!!
I may try them out and invest in one. Do the scents linger for long after you apply them?

I've also had to use my travel brush with the soaps, although that was a long time ago. I suppose they would fit quite nicely in one of those EJ scuttles/mugs - they have an exceptionally narrow bottom.

I have a rotation of 30 soaps or so, including EJ aloe vera. It took a while to learn how to use it, but--since getting B&B tips and watching the youtube video on how to lather it-- EJ's been an excellent performer. Its surface is very hard and has to be broken in (though this should happen after a few uses); some water has to be placed on the surface for a few minutes before use; and the soap needs to be loaded, preferably with a stiffer brush, for longer than usual (for me, 60+ seconds, like, for example, MWF). It now performs quite well for me. Per unit weight, however, it's more expensive than MWF and many other really good soaps.

Thanks, rum! I'm trying...

The Seabuckthorn smells like (I'll quote SWMBO) "mmmmmmmmm" and lingers perhaps a couple of hours, no more I think. The Aloe Vera is more subtle and therefore lingers less time.

Yes. Before I bought the EJ Silvertip I used a EJ travel brush; but it's 19 mm knot and although it's more than enough, I like (slightly) bigger brushes for my mug (not a bowl, y'know!).

The puck goes to and fro in the mug for a couple of shaves perhaps; then it settles in and... that's it!

BTW, as for the Harrod's reference, are you from London? Nice place for shaving shops (though sometimes more expensive than online...).

I recall the scent of the Sea Buckthorn - it was very fruity and quite refreshing. It had quite a zing to it.

Yes I'm from 'near' London shall we say, which makes it easy to get into town on those occasions that some shaving retail therapy is required! I was just looking online for the EJ aftershaves and it seems everywhere is out of stock. I have to wait to try these out in due course, or I may just visit Harrods some day.

MWF is definitely better.
EJ is a really 'hard' soap. I grated it into a bowl. I also soaked it daily for a few minutes (for a few days) to let it 'absorb' some moisture. Now it lathers easily.

Note: I have soft water.

I can get it to lather fine ,but it has no cushion or glide. I'll give it
a few more goes. Cheers
