Edwin Jagger Super vs Silvertip

Anyone have these brushes, just wondering if the Silvertip is worth the extra $$$ over the super badger brushes.

Does you also need to get the smell out of Edwin Jagger brushes?

Thanks

I have used an EJ Super exclusively for the past year. I did not smell when I got it, does not smell now. Excellent brush for face lathering. I have often considered getting a "better" brush but I havent bothered, since this brush is part of a technique that gets me consistent (meaning 99% of my shaves) BBS with no cuts or irritation.

In other words, I am batting .400 and aint changing my bat.

These might be rebranded, I'm not sure though. Any reason for getting EJ?

EJ seems like a well established mid range brush manufacturer. I want to limit myself to under $100 at this point and EJ seems perfect. Plus they offer free shipping from UK for a few more weeks.

I think i got the Best badger, whatever is under silvertip. It is plenty soft unless you jab it into your face. Good amount of stiffness, doesnt spread out too much, lathers quick and holds water well. I do not know if I like the floppy ness of a silvertip, never used one, just seen mantic vids.

There's a relatively new men's grooming shop with a selection of EJ brushes and soaps here in Singapore, I was amazed to see it. Brushes seem to be about SGD60 for a badger up to 200+ for silvertip. I may have to indulge at some point...

I have also been using a super badger in XL for a few months. Prior to getting that, I was using a EJ BBB which I thought was outstanding...so suggest that you try a Silvertip and see for your self. For the moment I am sticking with my super badger that seems to be the best brush for me.

I used a EJ Super (Georgian) for several months exclusively and it worked great (until I started getting into high-end Simpsons and Rooneys). It's soft without being too scritchy and it has enough backbone for soaps and creams.

I use a EJ super badger and love it. It's finally broken in and it's very easy to use. It is quite soft, but still able to lather well with hard soaps.

I got mine for $65 new and I'd recommend it to anyone. Excellent middle of the road brush.

+1

I have both (bargains at Amazon!) in 23 mm knot. And both are great. The Silvertip IS softer (luxuriously softer... and no floppy at all), but after several months using the Superbadger, it's more than OK and use it when the soap likes a stiffer brush.

About the smell: a bit of dead-dog scent (y'know) for the first days and then nothing whatsoever...

EJ is quality IMHO and you can get it for a reasonable price. There are upper brushes out there but EJ offers a good quality-price ratio.

As always, YMMV.
