EDT-scented aftershave thoughts, generally?

Does anyone have any experience with aftershave sprays that are made by your favorite EDT designer? What are your thoughts? Do they work as well as other aftershaves? Do you still have to use other aftershave products, such as another unscented splash prior to it or an alum block? Do they have any moisturizing properties or is it mostly for the fragrance?

I have found a few fragrances that I really like and am considering purchasing the aftershave sprays so I am not wearing conflicting fragrances, but I have never purchased the aftershave. (Or if I had acquired it as part of a gift set, I either threw it away or gave it away thinking aftershave was redundant since I was already using the EDT.)

Right now, I am using one of two post-shave products I own, either the Proraso pre/post shave, Shea Moisture Shave Tea Tree After Shave (great, cheap find from Target), or both. Neither have particularly strong scents, so I can pair them with whatever EDT I want to wear. I suspect I will be trying other aftershaves, but don't want to smell like potpourri.

[Side note: if you are looking for a very good affordable aftershave, I highly recommend you try the Shea Moisture Shave Tea Tree After Shave I found at Target. I think I paid around $5-7 for it. It has tea tree oil along with witch hazel and other essential oils. Almost no noticeable fragrance and usually works to stop any weepers I have.]

Designer aftershaves ("EDT spinoffs") mostly come in splash (not spray) bottles, just like drugstore aftershaves.

I own quite a few. Most of them, especially the modern ones, have decent skincare properties. There is a common misconception that designer aftershaves are just "alcohol, water, and fragrance"; this does not match my experience.

The biggest problem, IMO, with designer aftershaves is that the scent strength is often very weak (although this varies a lot from product to product). In many cases I've wondered why the manufacturers don't add a little more fragrance, since we all know that the production cost is negligible anyway. I guess they want to make sure that the aftershave version won't take sales away from the more expensive EDT.

I just acquired a bottle of Viktor&Rolf Antidote aftershave which is in a spray bottle. It is alcohol based, but not sure if it has decent moisturizing or skincare properties. I haven't tried it yet, but got it for a good price as no with the edt. I did notice the fragrance is pretty weak, but I will give it a try.

Aftershaves are generally not meant to have strong and lasting scents. They are mostly intended for their antiseptic/healing properties. Pinaud aftershaves is an exception to that rule.
