Decided to go after the edge on my Wausten 214 today. Its just a kinda junky old razor, that had some pretty significant edge issues (looked like it had been used as a prybar). No cracks, just some good sized chipping and some warping around the chips.
Started with 400 wet/dry, and got the nicks out, then went to 1000 wet/dry, and finished on my Boss Barber hone. I don't consider it shave ready, but it is at least ready to be honed by someone with more of a clue than I. I did take it for a test drive, and it does cut decent, but given that I have no comparison for it, I will send it out for professional help.
I did cause a good portion of hone wear to the spine, but then again, I had to take nearly 1/16 off the cutting edge to get the damage out. Not bad for a first time, I don't think. at least it can cut again....
