I was wondering the same about the Diamine...I have the Diamine on the way so if I like it I may try this one as well. Does it pretty much write black?

FYI for those looking for the Diamine, you can get a re-branded version under XFountainpens.com's Chesterfield label...AFAIK all their inks are re-branded Diamine packed in plastic bottles. Free shipping over $15 also.

ESSRI is a wonderful iron gall ink. Highly recommended if you looking for a nice bl/bl.

Diamine sells their own IG, it is a nice ink but I prefer ESSRI.

I have a bottle on the way. I have been intrigued for some time due to the excellent review by FPN's Sandy1 (she writes the best ink reviews in my book), but it only really became viable to me once I started using Pharmacist's fancy iron gall inks. I didn't buy his original ink which I feel was a terrible oversight, but I'm waiting for him to create even more novel iron gall inks like the purple he seems to be working up so I decided to go in this direction for my first blue-black iron gall ink.

I'll certainly be reviewing the ink when it comes, but it seems like it has a strong following at this forum already. I agree the bottle looks a lot like the Diamine 30mL ink bottles, but ESS sells it in 110mL containers. I'm guessing that bottle must be a staple type of bottle in the UK sold in many sizes, almost like Nalgene bottles are all roughly the same type of shape even though there are varying sizes I own. Ironically, I'll be decanting most of the 110mL bottle into an 80mL Diamine ink bottle (not the Registrar's type, the normal type).

Sandy1's ESSRI looks much more gray than my sample I got from SmoovD. Maybe a different batch?

Anyway, if think you might like a purplish iron gall, by all means try the Rohrer & Klingner Scabiosa.

ESSRI has a huge following, I believe, because of the unpredictability of the resultant color when it dries. Not a batch difference, a pen difference. A paper difference. I have months old writing that is still nicely shaded blue, I have another that turned nearly black. In my rollerball pen it delivers a palish blue that darkens only slightly. The dryness allows me to use it in 2 gusher pens that never wrote well before, but now are behaving and acting like champs. I never want to run out!
