eBay Toggle arrived: Broken. Need help!

D1 Toggle arrived today from Peru. Unfortunately it is pretty beaten up.

Described as "Razor works perfectly"

When you turn the adjustment knob, as you get to the far ends the entire head of the razor (safety bar) turns out of whack. It's as if the safety bar is loose. The adjustment dial clicks on all numbers but cannot reach 1 or 9 without twisting head of razor.

Should I return this? Or is it worth it to completely disassemble. Clean. Attempt to repair??

Toggles are a bit different in that the safety bar is what is adjusted up and down. The bars float independant of the blade bed. If you close the doors will everything align?

$114 is aroun £70, for me I'd be speaking to the vendor and asking for a refund either full or partial and keep the razor or retun.

Lets put it this way I bought an Aristocrat before Christmas for £62 the vendor upped the postage at no extra cost to me so I could have it the next day. He described it as 'user grade'. It arrived and looked like new. I'm supper happy.

Thanks Tom. (This is my first toggle.)

When the toggle is deployed and doors close, everything lines up. When adjusting the dial it gets difficult to turn at the extreme ends and the safety bar twists. But, to your point everything lines up when the toggle is deployed.

I'm not complaining about eBay. I've won some and lost some.

I will be alternating soaks throughout the night. Hot water, oil, ultrasonic, Barbicide, scrubbing bubbles. I'll see if I can get some of the crud out.

Believe it or not, this looks normal to me, the safey bars can become unparallel with the rest of the head but should center as doors close.
Hopefully your adjusting dial will free up for you more although it will not feel like a FatBoy dial.

Seems to be improving. I've been rotating 10 minute soaks between hot water and scrubbing bubbles. The dial seems to be loosening. Sitting in a 4 minute ultrasonic cycle now. Next will follow a 10 minute soak in oil with some manipulation ever 2 minutes.

keep us posted, pm me if you need help.

Thank you Alex, an everyone else too. Much appreciated.

I do have one question. When I adjust the dial to the extreme ends, 1 or 9, the silo doors sometimes get hung up on the safety bar. When this happens, I can't deploy the toggle. I have to first get the silo door off of the safety bar, and then toggle will deploy as it should. Is this common?

Ok. So "broken" was obviously not the correct term. "Gunked up and in need of love" is definitely more appropriate.

Seems like the only think "broken" was my understanding of how a toggle should work. When I saw the safety bar rotating out of parallel with the silo doors I immediately jumped to conclusions.

I think, with the help of B&B I should be able to get this razor shaving.

I do not have a D-1 but my F-4 Toggle never gets that far out of alignment to prevent closing the doors. That is what you are saying right, the doors will not close? Look at the razor head from the end and see if you can spot the conflict.

If the silo doors are ALL the way open an I adjust the dial from 9 down to 1, it's as if the side of one of the silo doors (looking from the end of razor) overlaps the safety bar on one side. If I try to deploy the toggle in this position, it gets stuck. I need to manually close the silo doors partially to alleviate the hang up. Then the toggle will deploy as it should.

The situation can be avoided if I don't allow the silo doors to rest all the way open when adjusting.

Think you could capture that in a photo or two? Maybe both ends of the head as the doors are stuck after adjusting dial down?
