Yes, Yes. It's NASTY out there. Of all the days for my MIL to fly in...ugh! Remarkably, her flight arrived on time from Chicago to Hartford at 2:14 today. It's a long drive to the airport from here and travel was already getting pretty treacherous, but everyone survived.

We are now all hunkered down and listening to the wind rip. The wind chimes are have long since abandoned their normal zen-like whispers and are feverishly piping out chaos, and the snow flakes sound like sandblasting on the windows.

I'm fairly sure we'll lose power at some point tonight as the wind is projected to get even worse. Unfortunately, our backup heat source (propane 'wood' stove that doesn't require electricity) is out of commission this week while we wait for parts. All we have right now for heat is electric baseboard. Could be a cold night if the juice stops flowing.

Feeling pretty good that I keep the generator in tip top shape and ready to deploy at a moment's notice. Same goes for the snowblower. Unfortunately, the generator is not rigged into our service panel, so it won't run the heat or well pump. We should be able to huddle in one room and stay warm with an electric oil-radiator, though. I set aside 15 gallons of water so we can flush the toilet as often as we need. Yes, that's the sadness of having well water. You only get one flush once the power's out!

I have a beautiful bottle of my favorite brandy (Jepson Signature Reserve; sadly no longer produced) on standby, too!

It's a hassle, no question. But man, I love a good snow storm! We could be looking at 20+ inches in my little blip on the map.

I'm here in the Northernmost part of South Jersey ... near Fort Dix. We currently have 4 alerts going on. I'm right on the borderline between a Winter Storm Warning and a Blizzard Warning.

There is about 6" on the ground so far, and the reports are calling for that to double tonight.

I have a Civilian Job on Fort Dix, and the base is currently closed to all but emergency and mission-essential vehicles. I don't have to report until 12:30pm Monday, and its touch and go as to whether or not my department will be open by then.

20" expected at my house. :001_huh:

Hi Jim,

I gave up for the night. I moved the same 6" of snow 3 times. If I wait it will blow back to my neighbors house. I just need a path from the woodpile to my BBQ. :wink2:

That's around Baltimore isn't it? I thought the worst was over for us in Somerset County but apparently not lol
I have a friend in Baltimore who is totally pissed at me because I blew off a trip to visit him this weekend. He has never had a license, and doesn't comprehend what driving in snow is like. He can't understand why I was reluctant to do so. Whether it was 12" or 1" ... I don't like being on the road when its snowing.

I wanna be sedated!
It is cold in Iowa. Maybe 15" of snow total with 10" of that friday. I am ready to go back to KC tommorow. It is supposed to be 60 there by Thursday. Be safe all you members in Blizzard alley.

We were in the Roanoke Va area for the holidays visiting the inlaws. On Christmas day my father inlaw said have you checked the weather for the Eastern Shore yet? I knew then we were in trouble. After checking it and seeing 4" for my area we packed as fast as possible and left as fast as possible. By the time we left there house the roads had covered in there area. By the time i got around the Richmond area it was night time, snowing/sleeting and i didn't like it one bit. It got better once i got closer to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge but there for a while it was not a happy time in my car lol. Long story short. I hate driving in the snow too.

Am hunkered down in Long Island, hearing the wind rip. The snow is piling up, but the wind makes the snow stick to my windows. I can see the snow blowing sideways outside. And I just returned from a trip to Orlando, where the high temp touched 70s.

Anyone else's flight get cancelled?

Not yet, but I have a flight Wednesday morning from New Orleans back to NYC. If this thing keeps me away from the girlfriend, I'm going to start using unleaded gas and switching to pure CFC spray deodorant to further global warming

I'm looking at a solid 2'+ out of my window. We're stocked with food, the fireplace is roaring, and the only thing on my schedule is a snowball death match with my kid. I picked a good week for vacation.
