DYI Str8 Display Storage

I made this to hang on the wall of my bathroom from a $12.50 on sale hinged glass front display box from Michaels, a piece of felt, four sets of super magnets from China, four nuts and bolts, and a 40 gram reusable dessicant silica gel unit (hidden behind the felt).

Seems to work pretty well. Easy to get the razors off the magnets.

Where did you get the magnets? And how is the silica reusable? Do you just dry it out in the oven or something

Thanks everyone for the comments on the looks of the razor holder. I was not even thinking much about the looks aspect of it--I was thinking more or the utilitarian aspect of it--but the photo does not do it justice. I suppose the important looks part is to show the razors, each of which has nice scales, especially the blue one, which is dyed, irridascent buffalo bone, which looks very exotic and eye grabbing in person! I ended up mounting it over my sink on the side of a shelf in front of a mirror, which is an interesting effect. Very convenient, but still can be seem in the mirror more that front on.

The magnets are from http://proudstyle.com/Magnets.html. I forget what size I got. Probably the 9102s. I was thinking that I would mount the razors sideways, but they work better hanging from their tangs. Easy to get on and off the magnets for one thing, and mounting them sideways they tended to arrange themselves with the spine toward the magnets and the body of the razor being perpendicular to the back of the case. I stacked two magnets to get a little height off the backing.

These magnets are very strong. So strong they are a little hard to work with. They adhere to each other very tightly. They are also a little brittle, so if you let one go flying across a distance to join its mates, it may break. when it slams into the the others. But there is no question about their ability to hold up the razor securely.

Yes, there is a little window in the aluminum case for the silica which changes from orange to green when it gets saturated, and you put the thing in an oven a 275 or so for two hours to dry it back out. I do not know how big an area it was designed to cover, but I am sure much larger than this box!

I just read your interesting posts on the wall razor holder, but the picture showing what you have made is no longer accessible.
Do you still have it?
