Duke 3: Somerset vs. Vulfix

I need your opinions about the diferents Simpson Duke 3 in best: The Somerset and the Vulfix models, in terms of good manufacture, shedding issues or problems, hair's quatilty, density, performance, softness and stiffness of Tips, and so on.

Do you know some review about these brushes?

Thanks in advance fellas.

The Somerset is more fan-shaped, and the quality of the Best hair used is said by some to better compared to the current Simpsons (not true about the Supers, though). I have tried both, and found the Simfix also tends to splay more, at least on my sample which had a longer loft by 1-2mm compared to my older brush.

I have no experience with the Somerset. But some say that the current Best is fantastic, especially in the Duke range.

I have a Vulfix made Simpson Duke 3 Best and it is my favourite shaving brush. Of them all. Absolutely fantastic, under every aspect.:thumbup1:

Marco, I keep reading how much you absolutely love your Duke 3 in best. Even though I've been reducing my stock lately, this brush keeps popping up as a potential addition to my small collection along with the New Forest I have in transit. Maybe this brush, a tub of T&H Lime to try, and the 20% T&H B&B discount will be too tempting to pass up. On the other hand ...

The Somerset Era Duke 3 I once owned was well loved by me. I have not tried an Isle of Man produced Duke 3 to compare it with however.

I have a Pre-Vulfix Chubby 1 in Two band and a Vulfix Chubby 1 in Two-band.
They both have similar backbone, but the Vulfix has softer tips and is denser. The Pre-Vulfix almost has scritchy tips. They're both great though!

I can't comment on the Vulfix Duke 3 Best. I've never used one. Ray knows what he is talking about, so I would consider his comments carefully.

My Somerset Dukes (yes, I have two) are my "go to" soap brushes. If I had to cut back to two brushes, one would be a Somerset Duke 3 Best.
