To my eye, Jeremy, I think the knot is set a bit too high in all photos, although it always comes down to personal preference. What are the specs on that knot, by the way? Once you have calipers and can provide measurements, there are plenty of experts here who I'm sure will weigh in with opinions. Good luck-- that's a great looking handle!

oh it might be set too high on all the photos I surely dont want a floppy brush. Ill just wait till it get the calipers in.

ok got my calipers in and this is set to 54mm is this too much loft. the knot is 28/70

and what epoxy is good for this handle. and what is the best way to go about setting it with the epoxy details please.

If it were me I would start at around 50mm with some silicone adhesive to temporarily set it. Use it for a few shaves and then use a couple quarters as spacers and try it again. I few millimeters difference in loft can turn a scrubby lather hog into a well balanced performer and then again into a floppy brush usable only for bowl lathering and paint strokes.

You started with a tall knot. There are 65 mm knots in that general size.

Personally, I like loft. Try setting it where it is with silicon and shave with it and see what you think of it.

You will need a pretty deep hole to get your 70 mm knot down to 50 mm installed.

ok so 50mm for a 28mm knot sounds like its what everybody does. so with the epoxy do i fill it to the rim of the brush??

I put a couple light cuts in the knot base so that the epoxy has something to hold onto. Don't go too deep and damage the base.

Put just enough epoxy on the shelf and inside the rim. I use a toothpick. Basically, you don't want epoxy oozing out the handle and into the hair. Ask me how I know.

Sorry to confuse you but I think that 52 mm loft looks good on that brush but it is personal preference.

Good luck.

I agree with Dave. A few test runs should inform you of the loft you like best.

Good luck!

Definitely don't fill the handle to the rim with epoxy. Once you have your loft selected, I would glue the cork (and spacers, if any) in place and let it set briefly so nothing moves around. Then a few more drops of epoxy should be all you need to permanently fix the knot in place. You don't want it to ooze out of the top, onto the outside of the handle or into the hairs.

Ok i went for it. The knot is set. I put 2 pennies in the very bottom to give some weight. The Handle seemed too Hollow and cheap before now with the little weight I hope it will fell better. We will see what happens tomorrow when i use it.

I think the knot is set. How do I know?? Just use it?? Or should I try and pull on the knot a bit or what? ? Thanks for all the help

Here are some pix. one with the wee scott the other is an art of shaving silvertip 24/58 knot my knot is 28/52.5 I got some glue on the hairs but over all im happy with my 1st re-knot. I did 1 lather and it lost 5 hairs. Ill do another lather later today and see what happens. the bloom is nice.
