Drying Razors after a shave

Do you guys dismantle your razors after each shave to dry them? Or do you just place them somewhere away from the bathroom and let them air dry.

Ideally with a plated finish you don't need to worry about rust and what not, but when you're dealing with a 50 or 100 year old razor, things aren't always ideal. Your thoughts?

I loosen the head of my razor and rinse thoroughly. I then dry it with a towel and dip the razor and any blade in alcohol. I do this with my Progress, FB, and slim. I then let them air dry.

The alcohol dip is well regarded. I have a bottle of 91% isopropyl that I bought just for this purpose. I've got my eye out now for a small barbicide jar which I intend to fill with the alcohol.

I have a long-handled adjustable and I don't do anything with it after a shave. It hangs off the over-the-nozzle organizer thingy and I don't notice it has rusted or sufferred at all in the 2 years I have been treating it this way. I do change the blade every Monday and if I have a heavy beard I will crank it open and flush it out, but nothing special otherwise.

+1 on this...pretty much what I do.

I've been doing this as well and for a long time. It also has the benefit of acting as a disinfectant, although the benefit is not a significant concern for me. I just want to blade and razor to dry quickly so that it has less chance for corrosion.

Could not doing an alcohol dip cause razor burn on the next shave? I never do this and have razor burn that I can't seem to pin point

Razor burn has much more to do with scraping off more than just the top layers of dead skin cells. If you're having consistent razor burn it could be your technique or your blades. Switch it up and notice how you feel after using different blades, less pressure, etc.

Rinse in hot water, dab try with a towel, and back to the hanger. The whole razor gets cleaned (toothbrush + bathroom cleaner) when I change blades. I think the most important thing is to simply prevent the soap scum buildup like we see on used razors.. nasty.

I do the dip strictly to act as a disinfectant and to have it dry faster. I do not think it has any impact one way or another on razor burn.

I rinse out the razor, give it a quick pat or two on a towel and drop it into the stand.

It gets scrubbed during blade changes and I boil them every six months.

I haven't noticed any plating loss, pitting or other degradation.

Just remember that alcohol loves water, and will absorb it from the steamy air, and dilute the mixture. You will start getting more and more water in the alcohol, which can lead to corrosion.

Me, I dip in Barbicide, as it's anti rust and it also cuts through the soap scum my hard water leaves on my razors.

+1 -- My method as well.

I just rinse mine off with water after I shave and then let it dry on my razor and brush stand. Every so often I will wet it down with some Simple Green and clean it with a tooth brush to remove all the soap scum.

I have a generic plastic Barbicide jar filled with Mar V Cide. I soak them in it for at least 10 minutes, then shake out and stick in medicine cabinet. Mar-V-Cide also has corrosion preventive additives.
