"Dry blade" techniques

I have been experimenting with this concept. It takes concentration and there is a definite learning curve, but the results are great. Its something Charles mentioned in the video, but relly didn't get into much.

Any comments?

are you referring to the part when he says "start wet and cut dry"? Once all the primer and everything is absorbed in the skin for about 10 minutes mid shave. You can go to town with the blade without any visible mix present.

If yes then it works really well. Just be careful to go easy and not butcher the face b/c at this stage of the shave you outta be pretty close to an ultimate BBS.

tsmba, during my last phone call with Charles, he and I talked about dry shaving. He told me that after my last pass I should rinse with hot water and dry my face with a towel, and then feel for any hair and start cutting that. He told me to do it, and I said I would try.

Totally dubious, I did what he said, except on my 3rd form I use finishing balm, then do the above. It works great. I cleared a couple areas that I missed when I was wet. I still can't believe that I am putting a feather to my dry skin with no visible lubrication, and it feels completely comfortable. I called SWMBO in to show her, and she was wide-eyed. Felt clean afterwards, too!

mars, I shave everyday like Charles. Not as fast as Charles (I've only been method shaving for about a month), but trying to get there!

Yes, that's part of it. Its all part of going after that last stubble. Its not really completely dry, as the skin is thoroughly saturated with all the goodies.

As to "shaving like Charles"....I try to emulate his technique, but never at his speed. I also am not using Feather blades.

I cannot shave dry. I've tried and my face always ends up looking flayed and feeling much, much worse.

I too am unable to dry shave. I did it once when I first started shaving and I will never do it again. Now I always remember the dry shave scene in the Dirty Dozen.

I'm not referring to dry shaving. The "dry blade techniques" refer to the final part of the RMWS process when you are working without the wet mix. It assumes that you have just finished the rest of the process and your skin is fully hydrated.

This sounds interesting. I was having a rough time getting used to method shaving. Started just doing the first two forms for the last few weeks with good results. I'll try Zombasaur's approach and see if it works now.

Have you phoned or emailed Charles? He and his wife are very adept at troubleshooting any shaving problems!
