Dovo Shavette Questions

I've had my eye on one of these for a while but one thing that concerns me is the blades. I know that I could snap a Feather in half and use that, but then it's almost as if part of the device is unusable due to the length of a DE razor. Dovo make a longer blade that acts in the same way, but is it a good one? Derby do them, but as their DEs are so mild I don't use them any longer. I have seen Feather blades advertised for their own brand of razors, but will they fit the Dovo?

This really isn't much of a problem. Yes your edge length is shorter than what could be possible but it's still a perfectly adequate length. The long blades from Dovo require a different sleeve and cost quite a bit more money and have no other use. If you don't like the Shavette you can easily use the standard DE blades with any DE razor.

The Dovo shavette was the first open bladed straight I tried, and I didn't like it at all. I thought it was very expensive and not made well. I'll second the get a Parker, the Parker's are a quality disposable blade straight, and at a good price.

Thanks, this is all good to know. What Parker model should I look at? Has anyone used the Feather Artist Club Razors? I found an Irish site that takes a bit off the price so they seem a bit more affordable now.

I have two Dovos. Keep one with a DE blade, the other with a longer Dovo blade. They work well and I have been pleased. I find the DE blade version is used far more than the longer blade. Both have seen extensive use over many years. They are high quality and if you get the stainless version it is near bullet proof. Mine is so knocked around the finish is worn off to create an interesting patina. I carry one traveling in circumstances where I won't put a more valuable item at risk. You can't compare how a DE blade performs in a DE razor to how it will perform in a shavette due to the high level of control you have over an entirely exposed blade. I get good shaves and incredible blade life out of almost any blade I have tried in mine. As usual experience and opinions vary.

I started with a Parker, and liked it, but if I had it to do over I would get a vintage Weck, some Personna, or Fromm blades.
The Weck takes a longer blade than the Parker, and the blades are readily available from a several manufacturers.
And the blades are way cheap in price.

Any of the Parker's should do you fine. The Feather AC's are top of the line, and the price shows that fact. If you want to go the Feather route, I'd go for the RG model which costs less.

Hi guys,

The shavette Dovo has three sheaths that serve to normal blades (red), Dovo blades (black) and Persona blades (green). Here in Brazil found a replacement for national Personna blades are the same size and cost less than half the price.

I've seen these blades Feather and I think would fit in the category Personna, why Dovo has a groove all its own.
