Put the blade in, turn the razor to its lowest setting, and tighten down the blade. Then, shave.

How shall I put it? Shaving with a Merkur is like drinking one of those Chiantis that comes in a straw-covered bottle. Gets the job done, but no fun. If you prefer a fine Brunello di Montalcino or a Moscato Passito di Pantelleria, then it is time for you to move up to a vintage DE razor. There are, of course, a hundred choices. My advice is to start with one of the best: a Gillette Rocket HD, a British Aristocrat or, best of all, an (alas overpriced) Eclipse Red Ring. None of these are hard to find on ebay.co.uk. You won't be sorry.
