DORCO ST300 not for every Razor

It was recommended that to tame my new Muhle R41 (2011) that I should use the Dorco blade. It didn't work at first, at least on a first pass situation. I had already had good results with the proper angle and Astra SP blades by the time the Dorco order arrived from Amazon.

This turned out to be a puzzle for me. The new Dorco blades did not work in my Merkur 34C or Muhle R89. Brand new and uncomfortable. They didn't work in the Muhle R41 (2011) on a first pass basis.

This morning I loaded my Muhle R41 (2009) and the blade gave a satisfactory performance. I could tell it was not quite as sharp as others I use but the shave was comfortable for two passes. Then I re-lathered with the Cella and used the more aggressive R41 for the final pass with the Dorco..... ABSOLUTELY NO PRESSURE. It worked fine and there were no weepers or razor burn anywhere.

????????????? Oh well.

I decided to try Dorco ST300 today. It was the worst blade I have tried. It felt more scratchy than Feather and more dull than Derby. Derby blades are at least not scratchy. The Dorco blade did not want to cut the whiskers in the areas with more heavy growth.

Did I just got a blade with manufacturing problem or are all this bad?

I have had good success with both the Dorco 300 and the 301. For all I know, they might be the same blade. But, they work fine for me.

I have not tried the 300, but the 301 works just fine for me. It is not my favorite, but I am quite happy with it.

The Dorco is about as polarizing a product as Williams!

If you don't like it, it's likely not a defective blade. The Dorco has been one of the most consistently manufactured blades I use. I find them only average in mild razors but excellent for razors with greater blade exposure or blade flex issues like the Merkur Bakelite 45.

Thank you for posting your semi-positive experiences with Dorco blades. Most B&B members revile them. I have only used 2 Dorco blades. During the shave, they seemed very uncomfortable (with a fair amount of tugging), but the results were excellent. BBS with virtually no irritation. I have one Dorco blade left. I am tempted to try it in 2 or 3 different razors, just to see how it performs. I admit, however, that I will never buy another one. I prefer a pleasant shaving experience.

Similar for me. The 300 consistently works well for me in my most aggressive razors, but is less effective in mild shavers. I've found the 301s to be consistently unremarkable, but not awful, in all the razors I've tried them in.

I've tried (and wanted to love) the 300, 301, and the Dollar General Dorcos. In the Jagger they always tear me up, in a SuperSpeed I can get a SAS shave out of them with some effort. If I never see another Dorco in my life I'll die a happy man, but damn it would be nice to be able to buy blades that work well for me for a dollar at the store.

If you like the Dorco 300, I suspect you'll also like the Derby in the same razors, as they both work about the same on my face. That's far from an endorsement of either blade.

The 301s are pretty good to me.

I like the 300's but do not like the 301's or Derbys (which I find more similar to 301's than 300's). Go figure. . .YMMV in action.

Old thread but new comparison. I like the 300 and it actually works very well in an aggressive razor such as the v3 but I tried the 301 and it burnt crap out of me and I don't get razor burn. I'll try it in my R89 and report back but the 300 and 301 are not the same blades at all.

I tried one for the February challenge. Five shaves in, my face looked like I'd washed it in acid. Second blade only lasred three. None of the first shaves were pleasant. Shaved once on the third, then tossed it, along with the two unused ones, in the bin.
Finished off the month with a German Wilkie.
Never again.

i think that Dorco 300 is not for every shaver , the ones who can shave can shave With anything , we other ones are learners and need to improove our tecknik.

I have tried 3 different dorco blades.
The old 300 were very good blades, but worked fine in particular razors.
The 301 was similar but the newer blades from Vietnam were mediocre.
I read somewhere that dorco are not suitable for adjustable razors so i have not tried them in such razors.I think though i have tried them once in a slim adjustable clone with bad results. But then again i am not sure 100%.

To an extent. Ironically enough I can't use a feather if my life depended on it. The one thing I enjoy with the 300 is the audio feedback. Whether I use it in the Aristocrat or mr9 it's a scraper.
